Digital SLR- What to buy?

I want to get a digital SLR at some point in the near future. Of course, I am strapped for cash but I thought the Olympus Evolt E-500 looked like a rather good deal. The two lens kit sounds sweet, and I can get that and more on Ebay (or even from an actual store) for relatively cheap. But the question is, how is the camera? Has anyone used it, and how would it compare to, say, a Canon Digital Rebel XT? I want to make sure this camera is awesome before I get it, and there are very few stores in the area where I could try one out. Let me know any info you've got regarding performance, ease of use, and basics like size and handling. Thanks a load!

a lot of people that i know that have the rebel xt love it, but i havent heard of anyone with the olympus...

personally i would go for the rebel xt.

i just recently got a sony dsc-h5, but its not slr :( it is very nice though

Nikon D 200, or if thats too much dough, Nikon D70s, or if you can a Nikon D80, or if you want cheap a Nikon D50. I am not bias at all. I just love my Nikon D200. All joking aside Nikon and Canon pretty much both kick ass and have fabulous products.

Rebel XT. And don't get the kit lens, pick up a 50mm f/1.8 or something. You can find them cheap used too, usually in good shape. just don't ebay it. But go to photo.net classifieds, or FredMiranda, or B&H or KEH. I have the XT and love it, definatly a good choice

If you're looking at Olympus you might as well take a look at the new Pentax. It's got in-body shake reduction, which is fucking awesome, and you can put pretty much any Pentax lens ever made on it. The best part is the price.

Also consider the D50...might be your safer bet, Nikon has a lot of lenses and accessories that are easy to find in any store.

Rebel XT's good too. Can't go wrong with any of 'em.
