Digital Detox

Anybody intentionally done a digital detox?

I went up to the BWCA for a week last fall and completely cut off from social media, computer, and internet use. I kept my phone to use as a camera and alarm clock, but that was it.

It was wonderful to get away from the complete stupidity of social media and toxic news. I read some books, hiked, paddled, made fires, got rained on, froze, thawed, lived.

I recommend it.

for almost a year i was in a phase of deleting and then redownloading instagram all the time. All i did was waste time on there

ended up deleting my account completely a few months ago and it's been great

not saying that everyone should do the same, but man it's been nice for me

i ditched my smart phone for 6 weeks and it was one of the best things i've ever done. Unfortunately I need it for work now. But I loved it. Makes you talk to strangers, read the paper etc....

I’ve been social media free for the last 2 months. It’s fucking awesome. I honestly don’t miss it at all. After the first 2 weeks you’ll realize how much time you wasted on it.

cant do it.

Dolan is actually a AI computer program that only exists on the internet.

If this is true then I'm not too worried about AI taking over anytime soon

You know you’re having fun when you completely forget to check your phone nor want to. This is why I go skiing.

It's been great for me. I was spending 1.5 hours a day on average on Instagram at my peak addiction. That's fucked up. Getting carpel tunnel in my thumb. I deleted Facebook almost 6 years ago as well. Been off insta for 6 months now.

I went on Instagram couple weeks ago and was so inundated with ads I just got right off after 10 minutes it's disgusting waste land. Won't be going back. I used to think I needed it to talk to friends but if someone needs to get a hold of you they just text you. fuck I miss those insta thots though .

I'm detoxing next week for a few days it's the best, gives my eyes a break from screens and fills them with wilderness, views and hopefully morels and gold, can't wait

I love doing it, but it is so difficult now. When I was in school, I tried to get rid of all my social media apps, but the only way that my capstone group communicated was through snapchat, so that had to stay. With work I still have to have email and text close by, so that can't go.

I really want to go back to just having a fliphone but unforatently for myself and many others that simply isn't a reality...but I do camp every other weekend to try and get away now.

My 72 year old dad still has a flip phone. All he does is talk on it. He doesn't text, doesn't have an email address and wont touch a computer. The last time I visited him I had to update his contact list deleting old stuff and entering new stuff. 77 year old Mom has a smartphone and can do basic things on it but no social media. Its kinda funny watching her navigate around on it. When I call home and have the phone passed around , if Dad is the last one to talk he has to hand it back to someone as he hasnt figured out how to end the call.

I like the computer and internet but social media is sure a black hole..I remember the days before all this stuff existed. It sure was simpler in a way. Even on the radio this morning they were talking about people having neck/back/posture problems from being hunched over a phone for many hours a day.
