Alright so I'm looking to buy a digital camera. I really like the Canon Elph Powershot s230 but my rents are trying to convince me not to get it. I'm looking for something right around the 300$ range with 3 mp. My rents think that it needs to have more than 2x optical zoom but I don't think it is that big of a deal. I just want a digi that takes vids too, is small and isn't too crappy.

What cameras do you guys have that you like?

my parents have the Elph, its alright but yeah a little more zoom would be nice (seriously)

I have a canon zr45 digital camcorder and its gay getting canon cause they need their own special firewires and stuff

I have the Elph 230, and cannot really complain with anything but the picture delay, other than that its pretty easy to use. I also have a Sony 4 MP that I like better but is it bigger and bulkier and doesn't really offer anything better than the Cannon except slightly better picture quality.

If you are gonna be taking skiing shots (or anything where a picture delay will be a problem), Cannon is putting out a new 3.2 MP (I think) that is supposed to be really small and lightweight, and with the shortest delay of any digi cam on the market (supposed to be almost as quick as a film cam - but I cannot remember the model, sorry).

 
I think the mini-DV is a digital camcorder, and works great for stills too, but is limited in what MP range you can get, mine is only like 1.3 MP for stills.

 
I have the Canon power shot s45

my dad has a 4 megapixel fujifilm one that kicks ass! best one in my opinion.

and he has some JVC video shit.

I'm going to get a 3chip or 16mm when I get the money. so I do some pro video and send it to companies and sell it

I am gettin one of these - has enough resolution for 11x14 prints and is good enough to send shots in to magazines. plus any canon ef lens will fit on

my uncle has the profression-type Nikon digi....it's such amazing quality. he got it used (like new) for like 2 or 3 grand.

normal, 35mm nikon lenses fit on it

Tiff, erik got a Cannon Powershot A70 for 280

it's 3 megapixel and takes sick shots and sick movies.. go for that. or the A80 They are sweet, ask him about it.

Yeah I've looked into all of that but I'm kinda stuck on the Elph cause of the size

I have a Nikon Coolpix 4300, it's 4.1 megapixels, $500, and it has a ton of features plus a pretty small size. I have no complaints about it at all, look into it.

 
^ ive got that same camera its pretty sweet cause u can get all the different lenses for it, the only thing that sucks is theres no sound on the video.

 
Yeah I checked it out the Nikon. I dig it but even though it is small it's sorta bulky/akward shaped. It's blockish and what-not so I dunno... I think the problem might be that I have my mind made up and so I'm not being open to new ideas. But 500$ isn't really what I'm looking to spend. My rents might get the Canon for me for a grad. pres but before season instead of at grad and they wouldn't be cool with spending 500$. We'll see, but thanks to all ya'll

Yeo! Yeah, I don't mind digital cameras, but I loathe the delay between the buttin push and the shutter opening. Ya try to get an jump in the air and you end up getting the landing--megga gay. Anyhoo, is the delay adjustable on the ELF? Cuz I might get one but I don't want the delay.

my bro has a awesome sony one, its about $365 at best buy, it has 3.2 megapixels, burst shot mode(for sequences) and it has m-peg built in, plus its really small

I have a toshiba 3.2mp digicam, pretty good and inexpensive. It has a canon lens on it. The only negative aspect of this cam, is that it eats batteries real fast. So u'll need some rechargeable nimh batteries.

 
if you use your digital enuf you can predict the timing of your photo really well, or u can use a multiple picture setting which on many cameras is the same quality as taking a single pic

ya using digital i always shoot sequence. its a sure way to get atleast one usable exposure from a jump or rail
