I am looking for a good digital camerea (still, not video) that will not bust my budget. I don't want to spend more than 300 bucks and don't know what to look for. I would want to use it mainly for ski pictures. Any suggestions?

for 300 bucks i dont know if there are any that would give u excelent quality. You would have to go into the 700 to 1000 or over range to get a good quality picture camera. But what i have is an slr and you can find those in a good price range. Also, you can get your pictures put onto a disk with those when you get your film developed. If you really want a digital go to like your local camera store and ask, they probly know more about the subject. Im sure someone on NS would know, Good luck.

 
don't listen to msp he's full of shit. you can get a 2 megapixel for about that it should shoot decent pictures as long as you don't make em' bigger than a normal picture, only buy canon or nikon, i recomend the nikon coolpix 775 it's a good camera for the price.

Olympus, Fuji, Kodak and Sony also make decent Digicams. The only reason I'd see buying just Nikon or Canon is that you get Nikon or Canon glass (the lens).

Thanks a lot, those look like good options. How are those cameras mentioned for action shots, obviously not as good as an SLR, but they would be sufficiant for just taking a few ski shots now and then, right?

cannon powershots are sick. not to mention they are the size of a pack of cigeretts

Anyone else hunting a Sasquatch this winter? We have spotted one in central VT.
 
I'm sure they'd be fine for taking action shots. SLRs are good at action because they have a quick shutter. The others would be fine for action as long as you time pressing the shutter release correctly. Many digicams seem to have a delay.

yeah you have to get used to the delay on digi cams but you get good after a few shots and time it well. also most shoot video.
