im a girl, and i get alot of shit from my guy friends b/c im a racer. but when i go skiing off piste with them im usualy ahead. i don't understand why people thing racing is gay, yeah spandex suck, but half the time our coach is havin us go free skiing (off of the groomers!!) and having us huck it off cliffs. and at races our coaches have to drag us from the parks and pipes b/c our mtn duznt have one. and most of the kids on our team aren't half bad when it comes to tricks. so why are we so stupid and 'cant' ski?

 
I race. I dig. Racers have the technical background to show people up... and don't worry, you won't get shit for being a racer on this site.

 
people will talk shit about raceing, but look at the best skiers out there in ANY discipline...most have race backgrounds, more have moguls, and the bestest have both...racing develops actual skiing.

racers are ok as long as they dont think we suck and they dont wear those spyder one pieces, also the best kind of racing is skierX hands down

Linejono, and misty-nine are 2 of the best skiers I've ever met(well not met but seen and talked to on the site) and they are both realy into racing and shit...

i race, wouldn't be nearly as good as a skier if i didn't, a lot of people make fun of racers cause of spandex and all that shit, but whatever we are the better skiers. And i hear about racers that are snobs, think they are hot shit, own the mountain and so on they only repersent a small group of us, most racers at least in B.C will go rip anything up and give respect to everyone

almost every fucking skier in the industry has a background in racing. Racing teaches you how to ski (as aposed to tricks in the air.) i have no beef with racing and wish that i had gotten into a program when i was younger, and if i did i garentee that i would be ten times the skier i am now.

Most of the best skiers come from racing backgrounds, because racing makes you a more solid all-around skier. Hermann Meier is a better skier than anyone on this web page will ever be. As far as in the park goes they are not usually that good, but in the big mountain and halfpipe they can dominate. I am not a racer.

whats up with this? at the beginning of the summer everybody was ripping into racers, and now everybody started to come out of ther closet with the realization that maybe some racers can actually ski, oh well, i think its cool that people are aditting that they're racers

racers are by far the best all round skiers. Graham Kraft (irefusetodieinsilence) could destroy anyone on this site guaranteed. And me too. but hes better. but racers can ski, people that dont race may be abl to huck shit, but lits see em lay down phat carves!

well i dont know who you are, or how you ski, but i wouldnt be so sure that i could 'destroy' anyone else on this site.

i definitley believe that a couple years of race training help make an awesome skier, same with a couple years of bump training, but real skiers dont spend their lives skiing around little flags on ice, they're out skiing the sickest powder lines, the shit that sends chills down your back and gives you biggest fucking rush of adrenaline that youve ever had, thats what real skiers are doing.

i dont care how fast you can you can make turns down your ice slope, if its not helping you rip the bc then its not worth it

racing teaches you how to be a good skiier. i used to race, and the kids that were winning races are hucking off big cliffs and doing some sick tricks in the park. some of the best skiiers today are ex-racers, like seth and jon olson.

 
I race but i jibbing and extreme is definitely my passion. I race so i can travel around the country and go to all the best ski areas. I'm going to Mammoth in a month for an early season race and i get to freeski for 5 days after i get there before we actually have to race. it's going to be sos ick and i wouldn't get to do that if i didn't race. Whoever thinks racers are homos obviously have'nt gone freeskiing with them, most racers are pretty good. Especially when we live in Jackson Hole.

Almost everypro raced at one point in there skiing childhood - exception Chris Turpin... thats all they could do tens years ago to compete

Im a racer and i cant stand other racers (mainly ussa). I have been racing for the past 4 years and its tight and all but for the most part the racers by me are assholes. The group i race with are cool and all becuase they ski park too. BUT the kids that are on the USSA team wont even talk to other kids unless they are on the USSA team themselves. I know first hand how racers can be asses. There were a few boarders that were building a kicker on my hill when a few racers go off of the jump when the boarders are working on it then a race coach comes and makes the boarders take it down. what the hell is up with that?

 
Theres one racer that i know thats cool, and the only reason hes cool is because he dosnt think hes the hottest shit on the mountain cause he can chase gates. i wont make judgements about ne of the racers on this site, but from my experiences most racers are pretty gay.

 
alright, just ignore sherpa, he should know better than to talk shit on this site, he should also take note that some of the newschool skiers are racers or past racers who are still good and could still kick other racers asses

i don't think sherpa ment to be rude Graham Kraft is on the B.C ski team and is ranked like top 10 in the world for his age, so he would be able to kick everyones but on this site unless anyone else is top 10. And kraft would probably be ranked pretty high up on this site for tricks, he pulls some big stuff

I think racings cool, but i never raced, and everyone else in my family did, and im the better skier out of the younger ones, well im the youngest but, next to my dad, im the best

I guesse its cause i take lots of lessons, every year, its so good to learn new stuff all the time, its fun too

yeah i agree with some of you guys that spendin your whole day training is gay.

but since i joined the freestyle team 4 years ago then switched to racing i've found

that i can keep up with my hardcore skier guy friends

There is nothing wrong with racing and race training certainly teaches you a good strong turn. Though I never would go back to traditional racing now I've been out of it for too long and skier x is so much more fun :D
