Difficult Decision Making

So normally I wouldn't do this because I find it unprofessional to reach out like this, and asking NS for help normally seems to be fruitless. But anyway, its late at night and hopefully no one cares too much.. Anyway now that that is said..

I seem to be at a crossroads in my life. If you didn't know, I started Sag Straps a little bit back, and its been going alright. I felt like there was a gap in product in skiing (technical suspenders), and decided to give back to the sport that I love. Now many of you can be quick to hate on kids with startup companies, but realize I did it to fill a gap I thought was missing, gain some experience, and have fun at the same time. (I'm glad I did, as I made a very paltry sum because of it). It is/was a great experience, I shipped internationally, and made some business skills and friends along the way.

Anyway, back to the point. I hired a design firm to help me out with the 09/10 product for Sag Straps for the past few months, so this can go from a small quazi-homemade deal to a boutique-ish brand, with good materials, designs, philosophies, (paying taxes) etc. I'm not going to advertise or anything, but there is a sneak peak up upon my profile pictures.

To the point anyway, I haven't heard from this design company in about a month, and its really making me question my path this summer. If I decide to keep building this project/company, it will fruit and turn into something really cool, I'll meet some more cool people, and I DO find this stuff fun, its always different. However, I will have to work hundreds of hours at my YMCA lifeguarding to finance this, and it is a HUGE commitment upon my part that involves working, traveling, and devoting ALOT of my summer "chill, hang out with friends time" (don't get me wrong, I'm gladly willing to undertake it though).

Which brings me to my point, do you NS, think its worth it? I'm trying to make the product as different, functional, and revolutionary as possible, but in the end, if everyone just wants to buy from Wal-Mart/Hot Topic, then my hard spent time will be wasted (which sometimes, I admit, is the undertaking one admits to doing this sorta thing). I'm not begging anyone on here to give me support/ buy product btw, just asking whether or not the majority thinks its a well reasoned risk. Some part in me right now wants to give up, and just use the money for car/blades/tramp/hookah/etc., so I have a moral dalema (not sure if that's spelled right..) Legit answers and feedback would be GREATLY appreciated, and I'm sorry for being so unprofessional, its just I'm confused and need some outside feedback from the people I respect most, us skiers.

Sparknotes: Do you think its worth it to spend my entire summer at making Sag Straps grow and develop or does nobody like them and think its a waste of my time? Thanks, guys.

Only you know if continuing it for another year is financially viable..If last seasons sales are a rough forecast for the next season then do the figures and see if you will end up with a margin that warrants your dedication of time all season..If not, then can it.

Even if people come in the thread and say 'yeah i'll get one for sure' - that isn't reliable enough to act on. Preordering is the only way to attack that one and it isn't easy, people generally don't like to throw $ at a future benefit.

If you don't want people to shop at WalMart then figure out how you differentiate Sag Straps? I haven't looked into what you are selling, but I don't see how they are different to any other suspender expect for colours and size (maybe thats just my ignorance though)

If you have already had the design work done then the cost has already been incurred - so you are dealing with a sunk cost or maybe you could give next season a crack. Half the difficulty is getting something off the ground and that includes systems and processes which it sounds like you have somewhat under control.

For me, suspenders isn't a product that I thought would do that well - but obviously it has been a good success for you, so go for it if you have the dedication and patience.

dude your crazy not to keep going with this. you have a solid consumer base here on nsers. i wanted some this year but by the time i found out about you guys you had already sold out. keep it going get some advertisements over there >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
