Difference between cab and switch

I see these terms getting tossed around as if the slang of it and the coolness are more important than the accuracy.

Truth is: cab is switch frontside for snowboarding and switch is switch backside.

So, there is no switch rightside while the next guy comments about the same trick and says cab rightside. figure it out.

go look at any snowboard mag. cab isn't switch. cab 900 is not the same as a switch 900. backside and frontside are different in snowboarding. same with skateboarding. big difference. danny way's frontside 3 was way different (and more tech in my opinion) than his backside 3 he did last year.

my point is, don't take established terms and manipulate them into your own definitions. it's kinda what makes skiing less respected. we look like fools when talking to a skateboarder or snowboarder and fucking up all their terms.

 
i always say cab when its in a trickoff a jump and i say switch on a rail. i dunno, it just feels right.

u guys just don't get it and that's why skiing get's a weird vibe from many snowboarders/skateboarders.

also, why do so many people on NS say snowboarding defines skiing, yet threads like this prove that even the definitions provided by skateboarders/snowboarders get all fucked up. switch and cab are different terms that mean completely different things in the board sports.

just remember this when you are trying to look cool in front of your non skier friends or when skateboarding around people who actually know what's up.

 
i usually just say switch or when the people im around doesnt know what that means i just say backwards

cab in snowboard is when you do a switch backside but when you do a switch frontside they call it switch.

So I think we can't use cab in freestyle skiing.

 
Why do you care so much, and why does it matter?

Skiing doesn't have to go by the same tricks that every other sport does, and 'cab' has been established as switch in our industry. Most sports also don't say 'unnatural' like we do, does that mean we should change what's worked forever to 'fit in' with the other sports?

Caballerial, or cab, is an aerial skateboarding trick. It is another name for a fakie 360 ollie. The Caballerial was named after Steve Caballero, who invented the trick in the early 1980s. The trick was originally performed on vert ramps or pools but has since been adapted to flatground.

Now before you jackasses say, "See, it says it's a fakie 3, so it's the same as a switch 3 in skiing", again, you're retarted, because fakie in skating isn't the same as switch.

 
a cab is a switch spin, it was taken from Steve Cabellero who invented the fakie 360, or the CAB. so a cab on skis is a switch 360. a half cab is switch 180. a cab 5 is a switch 540 and so on. there is no backside or frontside unless you're spinning off a rail you retard.

the reason you're wrong is because I am a skater and there is such thing as a fs cab and a bs cab. switch is just skiing backwards. so a switch 360 and a cab are the EXACT same thing, weather it's rightside or leftside, it's a cab.

BUT, if it's switch unattural, then it's called a DIRTY 360 or DIRTY 3 for short.

as far as adopting words and making them into your own definitions, what if fag's started using the word fuck for when they have sex?

yeah I know fakie is to have the same footing as your normal stance, but you go the other direction. BUT ON SKIS you can't change your footing so that doesn't apply here. switch on a skateboard is the exact opposite stance, I know what Im talking about I've been skating for 7 years dood.

because fakie is just going backwards. thats all it is. you don't change your stance, you just go the other direction. now on skis, if you got the other direction (backwards) and you don't change your stance (since you are in mounted bindings) then that counts as fakie, doesn't it?

oh last i looked skiing has a 90 degree difference then snowboarding, pretty sure that cab, switch, fakie are all the same thing. Theres no backside or frontside since you are skiing directly forward. Nice try though

Cruz is right. Like it or not, cab and switch both get used to refer to a switch spin by everyone: magazines, pros and regular skiers. There is no way it's ever going to be change because it's been that way too long. Get on with it. If you don't like the term cab, don't use it.

A switch 3 by any other name would smell -- I mean look -- as sweet. Skiing isn't snowboarding or skateboarding and we can call our tricks whatever we want. Eventually things will standardize. I don't give a shit what a snowboarder thinks about a ski trick. Why should I give a shit what he thinks about what I call it?
