Diesel Sleds

Anyone know of any? Seems like the block would be too heavy to be a good sled but I was just wondering if they were out there.. I have the urge to burn veggie oil to get myself up the mountain.

I have never seen a normal diesel snowmobile, but I have seen some biodiesel ones. The main problems with a diesel engine are: first, the weight and second, the fact that diesel is not great in cold temperatures as of now. They have been getting better, but still not ideal.

As mentioned above, this will NOT happen.....

For anyone whos owned a diesel truck, they suck in cold weather. They need lots of iso-heet, and the fuel gets soupy in cold weather. They need to idle for a long time to start running properly. This would be a disaster for a machine to run in extremely cold temperatures.

The next thing is wieght. Diesel engines are heavy, due to many, many valves and other moviing parts. Wieght is already a issue with a two stroke, no one would buy a sled 3x that wieght.....

Along with all thos moving parts comes MUCH more maitence, and a disaster if u blow your egine. My buddies diesel shit the bed, and it was 20k for a new one. a sled wouldnt be this much, but it would be WAY ore than a typical 2 smoke.

And finally, if one were created i doubt it would pass emissions standards, or just be generally accpeted by the general public. Dont get on my case about how diesel burns cleaner, i know, ive been dealing with these things along time. People at a trail head wouldnt not like a noisy sled with a huge pipe blowing black smoke.

actually its extremely easy. I hate premoting it because I don't want other people to take my oil. I've converted two buses and a little generator and I'm doing a truck in the near future. Its so incredibly simple I don't know why more people don't do it. You don't need a "kit" or anything. all you have to do is filter it before you put it in and run coolant around the tank and fuel hose. Running 50/50 is completely effortless and if you get lucky with two tanks, start the car up on diesel in one tank and switch 'er to veggie when she's warm.

If people on here are interested in alternate fuels for sleds, check out propane. Pretty easy switch on a 4 stroke, and propane is much cheaper than gas....

gahh. see this is why I don't like telling people its easy. The news will exponentiate and I won't have an ounce of my own damn oil left.

Shitt, sucks I didn't know that when I had my F-350, with two tanks.

It would've made filling up the two 80L tanks less painfull.
