lots of hate here for em but it sure has taught me how to ski properly and understand how to get the most out of my sticks. i raced for like 12 years was fun and met heaps of people who i ride in the park with now. never had the spandex but i think racing is a great way to learn how to ski properly, i recomend anyone learning to ski has a stab at it for a few years, i see heaps of kids in the park who cant ski, they piss me off, trying to run before they can walk.

Anyone else used to race??

i sported the spandex yesterday at my race... but yeah racing really helps you ski better and it is fun.

im sure it helps you when your younger and just learning to ski but i dont see that many people staying in it once they are past 15 or 16.. A lot of the racer's at our hill are dicks and cut you off in the pipe and stuff. I wasn't ever really taught how to ski, i was just kinda given skied and expected to figure it out myself. It's much better that way. Maybe i don't have 'good form' but I can get down anything i've tried in the last three years (at probably 12 different resorts on the east) so im not too worried about what i look like.

i wish sooo much that i did, staring off racing makes you such a better skiier its unreal......

Yea, I used to race but quit one season when there was loads of powder and they used to make us slide down the slope REMOVING the powder so they could set out gates and we would then ski on ice with powder next to the gates. First time we had to do it me and my friend bailed and took powder runs down the back of the hill all day. Next time they made us do it I quit but for sure racing helps your skiing.

racing got me out of high school and on snow where i definitly became more balanced on my skis. I didn't have much fun in the gates but understand how it helped me with my skills.

I did wear spandex and we won the state title for our division in my senior year...

but i'm much more proud of all the freeskiing i've ever done.

*all hail to the mighty gods of snow*

raced fo rthree years in high school and it definitely improved my skiing. it helps with your balance and decisiveness. racing makes you think 3 steps ahead of what you are doing. Everybody has there own style of skiing and thats cool as long as you are in control and know the rules of the hill its all good. I would definitely recommend race training to anyone no matter how good they think they are it will only improve them.

I didn't actually compete that much, but yeah that's how I learned to ski to begin with. Good way to start off.

i was taught by my dad to ski and I had some bad habits so I took some lessons but I didn't get good until I skied with my friend and he just kicked my ass so I had to get better if i was gonna keep up and be near his level so I picked up proper tech from him and didn't do racing, now i ski everything and do a little Skiier cross which is damn fun. The other day I figured out what I don't like about standard racing, it forces you to follow everyone else or at least a set path. My favorite part od skiing is getting to decide where I go when I go and how i'll do it. And thats also what is great about terrain parks and BC riding it encourages creativity and doing something on your own and even if your doing the saem rail and jump as the guy in front of you you can 270 off or try a new grab and their is always something new.

the magazine is called 'POWDER' cool! - my stupid non-skiing friend

im still racing. its sweet im out skiing everyday, (and not just training) it's helped my skiing so much. im able to mob around the mountain and keep up with the boys.

= = = = = = =

Do things happen for a reason, or are they just the consequence of our decisions... good and bad?

This is my first year racing. Its kind of stupid. So far I don't feel like a better skier. I've gotten better at racing but it doesnt feel like I'm any better at skiing. Its tough to race with 1260s. It's fun to be out skiing with a bunch of friends though.

Coming Soon...

i race and i do other skiing also. racing really helps with form and technique, making you a faster skier, making it easier on your muscles (not as likely to get hurt if youre doin it right) and gives you better balance.

Well, here's my take on racing if anyone cares, lol

First off, I have to agree that if you learn in a racing class, it does help your skiing. I was in a race class from age 3 to 14, and then i switched over to newschool. I'm so glad i did, and I think the day i decided to stop racing was when I was at a provincial competition(Manitoba Games) and I was the only one there not in spandex with a quiver of skis. I was on Dorions, decked out in new Sessions gear and all these fat kids in yellow spandex with 4 pairs of skis were snickering at me. I raced well(slalom), but at the end i caught an edge and ended up riding the last 3 gates out switch. I get to the lift and some kid who got 2nd who must have been 200 lbs easy was like 'it would be nice to afford real skis, then you wouldn't have such problems with your last few turns'. I just about decked the shit. I realized that day what the racing world was like, at least how it treated me. When you ride newschool, no matter if you're hucking 180's or switch bio 9's, nobody's gona say 'i didn't like your turn leading up to that table'.

Racing is good for you in the sense it teaches you to really feel your skis, and i have friends who never raced who have a harder time being comfortable riding switch and keeping speed in the pipe, and i think that's a big part of it.

I never raced, but I've learned how to become a good skier in other ways, watching people, learning from my Dad, teaching myself... Skiing for me is about freedom so I never really saw the point of limiting myself to a set course when I can freeride and be more creative and challenge myself in more ways.

The other thing is most of the racers I've met are complete dicks. They all seem to think that racers are all better skiers than non-racers. It's ironic, because most of the racers I see off the course can only make the one type of turn they do when they're racing and can't mix it up at all... it's more fun when you can define your own unique style.

Go huck yourself.

i race, i dont much like it but its an excuse to go skiing everyday, and i ski park before and after practice

and i do where a gs suit, for most people those are real cold but i get pretty hot when i where one

I was never on a team, never had a lesson, but I have entered races, just for kicks. The ones I didn't ski fakie I won. Everyone who sees me ski thinks I'm a racer because of my big mountain foreward style, but that's just what feels best to me. Racing is cool, but the people who race and coaches are for the most part ass holes, at least in my experience.

Hey everyone I have a Downhill bike for sale a Intense M1 it has XT and Race face componets plus brand new Monster T this is a no joke bike and Im selling for cheap!!!!

Raced in high school and went to state. I am so thankful that i raced, even now whether I am skiing pipe, rails, park, powder, or just groomers I use skills I learned while racing. Anyone who says racing is worthless is wrong and ignorant.
