Did you race before you started freeskiing?

I want to find out how many people raced before they started freeskiing or if they still do. Personally, I have never raced and always owned twintips except for my very first pair of skis.

i did.

never really liked it tho it wasnt fun and too serious

the suits also sucks ass on a cold day

yes i did, i raced all through high school along with freeskiiing but racing enhanced my skills so much i cant tell you, it made me way more technically sound which i can take anywhere on the mountain, not to mention you get to wear sweeet spandex hahah just kidding, that wasnt that cool

i raced before i skied park and such. i was in the lift line and saw a kid with skis that were bent up on both ends and i thought "oh that looks fun" and now 5 years later i freeski

same here... lol, i went snowboarding on sunday and it was so much fun...

(not meaning to brag but,) i skateboard to so it was really easy. but i would never switch over

I think it's super super important to be a good and comfortable skier before you become a park rat. I'm in no means a park rat and still enjoy just skiing groomers for hours. When I was little I did brigade lesson groups for like 2 years but didn't like the slow pace and I didn't have any freedom. But if you look at some of the great park skiers/big mountain guys, lots of them have some kid of mogul/racing background.

Nope, and never took a lesson either. Kinda regret that... Didn't start until I was 10.

Tried snowboarding for a year, sprained both wrists first day, saw twintips in Focused, and was hooked on freeskiing ever since.

i did except my parents took me out of it becasue i would juts get off teh chair and ski as fast as i could tot he park or the pipe

that was when i was young though

I didn't, but I started at 2 and got dumped into lessons for years and years. I'd say I can hold my own outside of park, which is always a good thing, but my park skills need work.

full blown racer... race suite and every thing... now i rockin the oakley one piece will five pairs of twin tips haha

started skiing at 14(racing) raced for 3 years, got my first pair of park skis last year......

this year no racing and another pair of park skis....

No, but I've skied with a guy who was a racer before and he said the intense speeds made him fearless... and it shows when he hits some big airs.

I raced before I started freeskiing. I can't hate on racing because thats what made me become a REALLY REALLY GOOD skier. Oh and by the way most pros raced before they started doing freestyle.

absolutely did, and its the single reason why im the skier that i am today. gave me a super solid foundation to grow on and the rest is history. haven't raced in over 3 years but i dont mind bashing some gates a couple times a season. too much politics and too many shitty people tho, so i finally quit when i went to college.

word to that!!! same thing for me, ski racing helped me to ski at the level i am today!!! oh and when your good at ski racing and win some races its a real fun sport!!

Jon Olson used to ski race and now he is back in it. I saw him at a race at park city and he won second run. His goal is to make it to the Olympics in 2014.

i actually started as a mogul skier, then became a racer, now im a race coach, but i train moguls when ever i can get a chance. minnesota not so great of a place to ski the bumps.

I raced through high school. made me a lot better skier. I had fun. racing's just another way of challenging yourself on the mountain. not gonna lie last weekend I poached part of a course and hit a few gates. its fun but I dont think I'd ever legitimetly do it again.

I DO race, as in currently, and think its just as fun as freestyle, but wont continue it after high school.

NO, never raced, never wanted to, i snowboarded for 4 years before i got into freeskiing and i love it 10000000000000000000 times better

snowboarded for 5 years and then saw some good freeskiiers and bought meh self a pair of 1080''s and now its my thired year skiing or 4th idk
