Did you know that of all developed countries, the US is #1 in:

So the question is...what are we best in?

It's easy to post a list of we are the #1 in the world in all those shitty things...but what are we #1 in for good things?

Probably a lot more things than what we are bad at. And some of those things we are best in are really really important too...

Universities, Research Spending, Industry...I could go on.

Everyone is good at killing people, it isn't exactly hard for a government.

But it would be cool if you would not troll every thread and make a useful post for once. Guaranteed what we are negative it is easily overshadowed by the positive good the world gets from us, at least from our intellectual elite.

If you thought that was me trolling then you haven't seen anything. Please, don't tempt me.

But seriously, our military technology while not number 1 we are very very good and efficient at killing people.

One other thing you could argue is that outside of Japan no one can combat us in great video game production.

Not better but more so tied. The US is still using the old model of assault rifle where the magazine is in front of the trigger. Much of Europe is using the Bullpup rifle designs. Also, we are not the only country with Predator drones and shit. And even those are getting hacked and shit.

i thought bullpup versus non bullpup was sort of an opinion thing (i dont know much about guns). are they objectively better?

Bullpups like the Streyr and FAMAS can shoot an assault rifle round but how they are built allows one to use it indoors where normally people have been using MP5s and other guns like that. They allow you to use extreme assault rifle power indoors rather than shooting pistol ammo.

Yeah it is an opinion thing but you would think you wouldn't mind having a more powerful weapon for clearing rooms.

There is no tactical advantage to having the magazine in front of or behind the trigger and action. It honestly is a personal preference thing, or in the case of militaries a national preference thing.

haha, alright sir.

I do know my friend in the Marines bitches about his M16 constantly and how riding in a Humvee with one the damn stock will keep hitting him in the chin every once in awhile while the guys with a AUG or other Bullpup guns don't bitch about it cause they ARE about 25% shorter.

yeah i guess i can see that

and gnartron- word, i can dig that, i was just surprised cause i read his post as implying there's a better total military force in the world

Easier said than done...plus not everyone is working on solving the same problems. Your argument could be extrapolated to the whole world, so why are there any problems in the world? Everything is too interconnected to easily be solved especially with current policies in place and things of that nature.

Blindside, that link doesn't even really make sense. It doesn't have numbers and it is 20 years old. Plus, most stats are done by GDP. I wasn't talking about research funding in a percentage of GDP, I was talking total spent. Sweden is currently listed the highest at over 4%, but their GDP is also only 1/3 of ours.

And Panda, I don't really care. I am tempting you.

The temptation is so great but I am just gonna eat an oatmeal cookie out of some of the ones my mommy sent to me out here in college and have some milk.

Greg what you fail to realize is that something that is 25% shorter will have lower muzzle velocity and therefore less power. The shorter the barrel, the less powerful(barring increasing the load a shit-ton, and therefore increasing recoil) Which an army would not do because they need the the gun to be able to be fired by all different kinds of people. Also, most Marines have combat stocks on their M16's not a solid stock like in the 70s. They can collapse.

i think (assumed) that the idea is that a bullpup has a shorter total length while maintaining the same barrel length... right?

What you fail to realize Stuart is that with the Bullpup the barrel is the same overall length. That is part of what makes the bullpup a bullpup.

And my buddy's entire platoon has old fashioned solid stocks. They had the fancy collapsible CARstocks but they kept getting broken.

Looking at the stats, I can see where you're right. Still, fuck Bullpup design. I'm left-handed I'm not getting sprayed in the face with casings.

You wouldn't get sprayed though. Your face would be on the ejector slot. You would get BURNED!!!!!

Pretty sure they have some lefty ones.

This is true.

Do you have the patience to do that though? I am far too antsy which is why I would probably have a M60 or SAW lain in my lap.

I do, I spent 15 minutes yesterday waiting for a rabbit to stop eating so I could get a clear shot and shoot it in the fucking face. I did, but it didn't die, so I had to step on it's head.

I hate shooting an animal like woodpeckers and shit and not getting it on the first shot. i feel so bad honestly.

What if you him them in the hand or foot?

And Stuart, I hate making animals suffer. If I was shooting at a person who is shooting at me, I think I would just unload at them.

Clearly your sympathy for an animal's plight only goes so far...you would think killing them in the first place without necessity would be much the same as injuring them first.

I shoot at woodpeckers cause they try to drill holes in my house. I USED to shoot to kill coyotes cause they attacked our neighbors dog and there was a cat in the neighborhood. Now that neither of those exist cause of dieing of old age I just shoot the shotgun to scare them. Outside of that I don't shoot at animals anymore.

(eye roll) please. like you cant concede theres a difference between killing it cleanly, and making it suffer. i feel the same way, in the apt we're living there are some mice. im not into killing animals but theyre in my house and the landlord isnt gonna do shit about them so we shoot them with the pellet gun when we see them. so far only clean shots i think but the last one i shot, there wasnt a sight on the gun and im pretty sure my first shot only glanced him. felt a little bad so i shot him again, in the head.

Fuck that, I'll use my .45 and my dad will use his .44 magnum. My dad obliterated a frog with his .44 mag for fun on the bank of the Mississippi.

hey go buy me some humane mousetraps and ill use them in a heartbeat. for now though, im gonna realize that i have no money and im gonna keep mice out of my house the only way i can so SUCK A DICK!

its heavy.

I can carry about 2x the rounds in 5.56 then someone can in 7.62.

While it does have a lot of stopping power it is slightly less accurate then 5.56. Not saying you can't kill someone with it. because you can, its just harder to put rounds on target at 300m.

On the Bullpup, They are effective in that they shorten the size of the weapon. However they are a bitch to reload, and are not as ambidextrous.

Also when clearing a house 9mm hollow point is just as effective as 5.56.

there was something else I was gonna say but I forget.
