I have to laugh a bit over you americans when you complain about high taxes. Here in Norway, something around 40%-50% of what you make each year goes directly into the governments pocket.

And you know what? It´s not all bad.

It would actually have been impossible for us to have the situation we have today where there is close to no poverty and we have the highest standard of living in world without this system. Think about that.
 
If a person commits murder, they send them to that resort of a prison? seems unjustified to me.

Michael Moore is a hypocrite, all he does is bitch about how much America sucks while he is rolling is fat lardy body in the tens of millions he makes every year. It is sick to see someone as overweight and misinformed as him preach about how much better Europe is or how much smarter democrats are then republicans. Also Norway has a better quality of living not because of anything Moore try's to get you to believe but because of two simple things, a small population and a solid education system.

If America was a truly Capitalistic nation , with no government intervention and totally free markets, had a world class education system for every man woman and child and could have a population lower then 200 million everything would improve, this country has 300+ million people 99% of which will be consumers their whole lives not contributing anything but more offspring. To have an efficient , healthy and intelligent nation like Norway it starts with education and hopefully if a child gets a decent education they will not become welfare recipients with 7 kids living in a 500 sq ft apartment.

A lot of the Scandinavia countries have very high tax rates, and have amazing school and health systems to match.

The Wicksellian Equilibrium for the US is a lot lower for the US.

Yeah they pay higher taxes, but they also have something called a safety net.where as if you are to lose your job you should be fine. They also have double and sometimes triple our vacation time. Both men and woman can take of years of work, pregnancy leaves, and still receive full pay.

But something must be going wrong because Norway and Finland both have the highest suicide rates.

Its odd we had a discussion on this yesterday in my Western civ class.But Myself and several other classmates really do not believe a lack of sunlight is a real explanation. I can see it being a factor. and in some cases a reason. But to boost the suicide rate that high.There must be other reasons.
Also If lack of sunlight is the real reason..then explain vampires..
 
i would be fine with paying taxes like that if the things they have provided to them like education and healthcare were given to me. sounds like a pretty fair trade off to me

michael moore could offer his films for free and i'll bet it still wouldn't change what he's trying to. it would just make him poor.

when you understand Japanese custom and religion it becomes clearer. also, here in sutheast asia the rates are particularly high but that is due to the fact that many people practice buddhism and are hindu and believe in the concept of reincarnation. though it is still a sad thing, it is often seen as an option for people who feel the life they are currently living has become pointless to continue going on with. the practice of Sati or self immolation of widows after their husbands death is a prime example of that.
i do agree with your pointing out that more darkness can increase depression rates in Northern Europe and northern areas of Asia like Russia and in that sense suicide is more of a chemical/medical issue as opposed to a cultural/religious practice.

if anything is hypocritic than it is the american behavior towards "government intervention" and "socialism".
you feel like the state is taking everything away from you without giving anything. but think about it, you guys get a lot from the government.
all countries that have inferior education systems say that this is a very important thing that they have to change and blablabla.
idk, maybe i just hate this "politicians and entreprises are the source of evil"-attitude.
