Did Slopestyle make it into the Olympics?

are you only saying that because you dont think that good skiers will ski because of drug testing?
i mean i personally would stop a herion addiction if i could ski slopestyle in the olympics (hypothetical situation), this would be the biggest thing to happen to slopestyle skiing... so obviously it will be a boss event regardless if "judging was bad"

not at all, i don't see that as a huge issue. i say it because slopestyle is way more dependent on snow and weather conditions than half pipe is, and events don't really get postponed or cancelled in the olympics due to weather, so people are bound to have some real shitty runs if conditions aren't so good. also think about the kind of judging that we all hate (messy dub 12 mutes getting scored way higher than a clean as fuck bio 10 blunt for instance), and think about how much worse that would be with the subjective scoring of olympic judges.

dude, those inherent problems of ALL major competitions. i'm sure olympic slope would be unbelievably sick. also, if the judging tilts toward judging in other olympic sports, messy tricks won't fly and landings like wallisch's gold run at euro x will score huge

fair enough, i just don't like the IOC for the most part i guess. When i say the judging will be worse, i'm not talking about landings, i'm talking about the spin to win ethic that most olympic judges seem to buy into so much

You didn't watch the Nagano Olympics, did you?

I swear nothing was on time. Alpine events were postponed all the time. Not to mention the US TV coverage was especially bad that year.

people would get injured like every five minutes

triples are just not meant to be in pipe

at least thats what i think

My concerns about it is if it does happen to make it in? Will they regulate the hell out of it like they did to moguls? It took them a while to allow competitors to do backflips.

olympic slopestyle would be wayyy more entertaining than olympic pipe, so many more contenders in slope that could podium too

i will be excited if they get it in, but overall i'd rather just stick to just halfpipe right now

For those of you who didn't realise this isn't a thread debating the worthiness of slopestyle as an olympic sport. He was simply asking whether or not they've made a decision on it.
Last I heard they had to go and find a suitable venue outside Sochi for it to run. Its not just finding a suitable run but there have to be training facilities, room for spectators, good spectator access, media areas, media access, accommodation etc. It shouldn't be too hard but its a formality they have to follow or the whole event could suck crusty arsehole if its not organised properly.

From the BBC article

"FIS says freestyle half-pipe and slopestyle , where riders head down a course which includes rails, kickers and jumps, is "very youth-driven and will appeal to future generations". "

left me wondering what the difference between kickers and jumps are.

you obviously have never watched an olympic event, nor have you ever looked at how scoring is judged. Take style is incredibly important in just about every event. Take diving; they're not just looking that you do a technical trick, they're looking that you're staying piked throughout and you have as little splash as possible and generally have excellent style. And that's exactly what separates the medalists from the rest, is their style. That goes for many events. Like aerials; you touch your hand on the landing, your legs are all apart during the jump, you won't score well. Or freestyle skiing, or any gymnastics event, or figure skating, etc etc. They all rely a huge amount on style. It's just a type of style that you probably think looks like shit. It's just much more technical to piked out in a dive than any grab you could do, so that's the style that the sport uses. I think the judging will probably be at least on par with Dew Tour, if not better.

I understand that, but I'm just saying I can't see the event being judged in a way that stays true to freeskiing. The olympics wrecked aerials, and I simply don't want that to happen to slopestyle and pipe

Olympics is where sports go to die, it will fuck up twin tip skiing.

We gotta make them not destroy twin tip skiing like they did with every other olympic sport. I really don't hope slopestyle will be in the olympics.

I

magine skimovies, urban, how the parks will look after ol, everybody suddenly knows what twin tip skiing is, and it becomes a mainstream sport, i don't think there will be much more slow stylish tricks, no B&E, TC etc then. Really... fuck olympics...

ahh yes. and thats the point. perfectly executed tricks will be marked high eg high mute dub 10s stomped. now this is is a very good trick. but to the point the kind of style we like eg "dirty" style such as b dog, edollo, sean jordan, dale talkington, hornbeck, etc will not be marked so high.
in this years big air mike douglas described henriks bio 14 as getting a little ragged. no thats his style, actually style with personality. while the olympics will be great for the sport the tech skiers will continue to be marked high above the "style" skiers.

It seems to me though that any tech skier can also throw down an incredibly stylie run that, just the tricks won't be nearly as difficult. But can some of the "stylie" skiers also throw down the tech tricks? something tells me Casabon wouldnt be able to throw a dub 16 or right dub 10, where Schiller can definitely put down an incredibly stylish flat 7 or bio 9. And the Olympics, being about "who's the best in the sport", are obviously going to judge based on what makes the skier a "better skier". I know it's a very subjective sport, but when the tech skiers can be just as stylie as style skiers, but stylish skiers can't be as tech then I'd say you'd have to go with tech as the winner.

I really, really hope slopestyle doesnt make it... Pipe is one thing that can be regulated but not slope.

What about henrik? He's more of a style guy but he can do all kinds of dubs. Phil is a really bad example, he chooses.

i understand your point but they will noy be judged by some gaperish schmuck, they will get people within the freeskiing community. however, i do believe the announcing will suck

the judging will probably suck ass. I'm not a real big fan of the olympic freeskiing thing, but as long is pipe is going in I'd like slope to go in too. I feel like slope is a better representation of freeskiing. pipe is good too, but i find it less exciting to watch and i hate skiing pipe anyways.
when i say better representation i mean better representation of what I do, so that people at school won't assume its like "sean white skiing"

fuck the people who dont want slopestyle in the olympics. theres forsure going to be a bunch of retarded shit and our sport wont be represented properly or whatever but itll be so damn cool to watch. youll always have guys like the b&e show to watch if you want to see something super underground and hyphy.
