any foo can throw himself off a cliff. (this is where the arguement begins about how much skill you need to huck cliffs) The last time this topic was brought up J.D. May brought up a good point. Hucked cliffs should only count if you LAND them. Pierre's got balls but he never lands that crazy high stuff. Morrison does (relatively) smaller stuff with tons more style and lands his drops most of the time.

i don't think people care if he's a good skier or not. i really don't care if he can ski at all, but i would like to see him jump off something really really big

1: Marlin, when I feel like dying I may take you up on that. It is true. Anyone, including me OR you, could easily throw ourselves off a 235 foot (or a 1000 foot, for that matter) cliff with skis strapped to our feet. The only difference is he has the balls to do it, and knows how not to die. But that's not skiing, that's knowing how not to die from falling off a cliff. I stand by what I said earlier. If you can drop a huge cliff and ski away, you're a damn good skiier. If you do a cliff (even twice the size) fully intent on landing on your side, you're a damn big idiot, and I won't have half the respect for this guy if he falls 235 than I would if he fell 50 and landed on his skis like nothing happened. Style is everything. And don't get me wrong, I know it takes skill to know how to land... it's just not exactly SKIING skill.

you guys do of course realize that if him, or anyone could throw down off a 235 + foot cliff, if they were crazy enough, they could concievably jump out of an airplane at any hight, 12 miles would be possible... terminal velocity is reached somewhere around 200 , im not quite sure...

you need a good mountain sense and ability to judge takeoffs, landings, snowpack, wind... you gotta be able to ski up to the cliff with the confidence that you wont squirrel out flat back the landing. these guys are calculated, and yeah its a stunt, but if you are going to call playing in the park or sliding urban rails skiing, you might as well call big nasty cliff hucks skiing. stop being purists.

as much as cliff hucking is just a 'breathe and go' type of activity (when its as big of drops as Pierre takes) then id classify it as SKIING. It might not have style, but i dont think thats the point

style or not, im impressed. until someone else does it better then him at that height, id say hes skiing

JD May - i agree with you somwhat. anyone could go jump off a 235 footer if they wanted to die (like yourself for example). the reason pierre is separated from the rest of us is because he has the balls to do it and not kil himself. he knows how to do it properly (to a degree). for the extreme majority of people, jumping off a cliff that high would be considered suicide, but not for jamie...

i can't say there's not much 'style' involved with the landing of 200'+ cliff. im pretty sure it's based on practicality and the fact that if he didn't land on his side, his spine would most likely compress and his knees would go through his head.

 
First off, skiing is skiing.. you got skis on you are skiing. Secondly... Jumping a 235 foot cliff is progressive. And last but not least anybody can jump off a 235 ft cliff, but not anybody can walk away from it. I bet you he is training tons.

4-d, terminal velocity is reached around 1,000ft. bud. not 200. JD May, im sorry but your wrong. it takes a lot of skill to not drop the cliff, but to land it without injury. if it was as easy as just dropping a cliff, then why do we only see like 4 or 5 people actually doing it? there def. has to be skill involved or else everyone would be dropping 80 ft. cliffs like nothing.

I dunno about his 235 idea, but in this years coming moview from RAge Films, Stimulus Response, Jamie drops a 160ft one.

^^That's what I said, it takes skill... but falling and not dying is not skiing skill. Just because he has 2 twigs strapped to his feet when he does it doesn't mean he's really skiing, he's just falling. To sum up: anyone can ski up to a cliff and fall off, few people can land without injury, and this is a skill, but I wouldn't call it a skiing skill, or a skill related to any sport, really. And think about it, he could probably do it with skiboards, a snowboard, hell, maybe even a monoski attached to him if he wanted to. As for the guy who said his spine would compress and so on... there are plenty of approx. 235ft drops in the world, and I'm sure, nay, positive, that at least one would have a steep enough landing to accomodate skiing away from it if you were good enough to handle said landing. If not, try a smaller cliff.

I don't call what hes doing skiing because almost anyone with little or no skiing experience could do that, provided that they can jump off cliffs.

JD, you do bring up a vary valid point, but your saying 'i could do that but i dont want to' like a 200 footer is nothing. your point about how anyone could do it is just as valid as me saying i can do a rodeo to an urban kink or do a switch unnatural misty 1440. alot of people have the potensial to do it but fear and pain get in the way, of coarse.

No, but seriously, I wasn't saying 'I can but dont want to', I was saying 'I can but I'm not ballsy enough'. Figuratively. There's a huge difference, park stuff you can try as hard as you want and still fail. A guy who's skiied 2 days can TRY a 50 foot triple kink, but he's not gonna get too far.

he definately has some of the biggest balls, to be willing to huck a cliff that size, but i can see what people mean when they say that it doesnt take a ton of skill, but it is still pretty sick to watch

its not that kind of skiing where i wanna go to. I think MORRISON is the better cliff-dropper than jamie. This backflip on this ~100 footer in focused is incredible. Landed.

whenever someone says dropping a massive cliff isn't skiing, it's the same as saying doing a 1440 is gay. whoever says it is just a pansy becasue they won't try it. how is skiing off a cliff, no matter how big it is, not skiing? it is still skiing, just to do it you have to be stupid. you have to be stupid with incredible balance and strength...
