Did I do the right thing.

So I'm a freshman in college. I was showering and these kids stole all my shit (towel, clothes, shampoo, key, etc.). I played along with it at first but than they weren't giving me my shit back, so it was getting annoying. I was going to use the shower curtain as a bathrobe, but this douchebag kid (who is a homophobe) is yelling at me to not use that and blocking the door with garbage cans to get out into the hallway. This really pisses me off, so I decide to run out there (naked), knock over the garbage cans, and get up in his face and tell him he's messing with the wrong kid. Now some kids are threatening me that I need to clean up the mess or get cited. I offer to clean it up if someone helps me, but no one comes forward, so I don't do it. In the end, some kids that were on my side cleaned it up, so no one got in trouble, but it looks like I might have some enemies...so did I do the right thing?
