Did Finess and The Bunch just change skiing?

First off shout out to The Bunch, Finess is an awesome flick and the riding is absolutely sublime. Watching it, I kept envisioning a subtle paradigm shift in the ski world. In the same way how when the B and E show came out everyone started nollieing off of everything and tail pressing for days, I wonder how Finesse will influence the style of the community as a whole?

I'm looking forward to seeing a hell of a lot more butters and hand drags at the hill this year.

Yes they did. 100% creative control. No budget. Insane talent. Diverse outlooks. You can have shots from 4 different riders at the same spot and you won't even realize it with the Bunch because they will all do something completely different from eachother, have it filmed in a different way, and easily stomp what they were trying.

My favorite segments in this movie come from Maximilliam Smith and Jens Nilsson. Maxi has the bipolar song thing going on and he delivers that perfectly with his eccentric style and entirely original "bounce game" that I've never seen from anyone before at all. Jens' skiing has a classic gangster to it in my opinion that appeals to me. The thing that sets his segment apart is the way he goes about hitting a spot. He has a lip on blind 2 on a quad kink that I will never forget. A disaster to the flat c of a down-flat c- down rail that was straight fucked up. I won't give away much more another just with a regular dfd is taken to another level because of his creativity.

This year they also have more shots outside of street skiing. Tobias especially stands out in the powder shots that are in the movie. You can tell he's just a naturally talented skier from the way he gets after it. If Magnus and LSM had all their shots to choose from for their part in Finess, instead of putting clips into the Level 1 movie then I can't even imagine what the outcome would have been. Despite splitting their shots, these guys both deliver with impressive skiing.

On a whole, the most alluring fact of this movie is that everything seems attainable. It gets me really excited for this winter because these guys are just like me, so why shouldn't I go get after it in the same way and have as much fun and hit as many spots at them. They are opening our eyes to what skiing can be. I doubt there was a winch used in any of these shots, a bungee in some it seems, but really it seems the biggest force for these guys that allows them to ski how they ski is that they are a group of friends. They don't need a winch to pull them because they push each other

Don't get me wrong, that movie was really unique and definitely a fresh take on skiing, but I think that it takes more than just one movie to "change" skiing. Sure, there's going to be a bunch of kids emulating their styles in edits all winter, but as a whole I think freeskiing has been kind of stagnant for the last few years.

The film was incredible... and as Dan said especially considering how little the budget must have been as well. Production value was a nice step over Far Out's too. Overall, I'd go as far as to say it was movie of the year, some real innovating going on here for certain

yooooo well said TALL TRU DAN this movie is so sick! just watched it for a 2nd time this mornin jazzin on this shit!

Know that you are wrong, historically all it takes is "one movie" to change skiing. Hell, it only took Tom Wallish one edit to change skiing.

internet age brings popularity to creative uncontrolled things like hoodcrew and the bunch, change is inevitable so this is good, go buy cameras and make art with yo friends

Finess is some next level stuff. Props to the bunch for getting out there and keeping it fun and creative.

I really hope they don't change how park rats ski powder with whatever the fuck that swivel thing was going on...

this so fucking much. As I've seen it said elsewhere. Wallisch's SU edit flipped the ski world on its head and they really started to change after that

totally agree. The question is, will this film have that big of an impact? Its an awesome flick, but impossible to say wether or not it will change skiing in the long run.

As skiing gets bigger, its tougher to change. Tom came in when free skiing was much smaller; it has exponentially exploded since. Tons more free content, movies with larger budgets, more riders, more styles, ect. Freeskiing has much more inertia (nerd)

It would be awesome to see more content like this, to have the Bunch make a lasting impact on skiing - but to do so, it will have to be more impactful than Tom's SU edit. Like i said, the flick was tight, but that is a tall order!

While there are definitely more kids skiing park than there were when TWall's SU came out, it's really all up to the people watching the movie and whether they want to start immitating the Bunch's style and ideas.

So it can change skiing if people decide to immitate it.

Skiing changed a while ago. Most people are just discovering this side of it just recently. Yoke, Trashparty, The Bunch, and so many more have been rocking this style so well.

Heck yes to this. All three of those crews are doing it so damn well, it's mind boggling. Also can't forget about Dais too, watching where those four crews are bringing the direction of the sport is awesome to watch.

Don't get me wrong, the movie was amazing, I enjoyed watching it a ton, I dug the MF DOOM in Magnus' segment, music choice and editing was new and exciting. But was it really that groundbreaking? I'm sure the bounce tricks will be prevalent in edits this year, but that and the wallride to hand drag 3 were basically the only shockingly new things to come out of this movie. I think it is an excellent movie, and a welcome addition to the world of skiing, but I don't think peoples skiing will change because of it.

Exactly! I feel like that is the way skiing should begin to evolve!

I think this is video is more groundbreaking than most people realize. its not what tricks they were doing, its how they were doing them. for example, jnilla's noseblunt 270 on that down rail is probably the best that trick has ever been done.

Yes they have. But its been happening for a few years with the conistent stream of quality content these guys have been putting out. Although Finess was definatly the best thus far. RESPECT.
