hey i dont know how widly known this is or if it has ever been posted before but i was reading the ny times today and it talked about peoples fixation with faces, how we see the virgin mary in grilled cheese and mother teresa in a cinnamon bun. then it mentioned that people claimed to see the devil in the smoke at the world trade center. i looked up some pics and i thought it was pretty crazy. here is a site with some photos from that day, check it out for yourself. some, i think are pretty legit, others somewhat farfetched. if you google something like "face in smoke WTC" you dont just get one picture repeted over and over. there are a bunch of pictures taken at different times and angles that reveal the resemblece which is what i find so eerie about it. check it out.

forgot a little disclaimer. i didnt read any of the shit on the site i just looked at the pictures so if its some crazy bitch saying that god told her the devil was going to end us because of the modern state of hiphop music, i am not endorsing it. just look at the pictures because its creepy.

I saw "christian media", and the link lost all credibility.

you can slow mo the smoke from any fire...throw some wet pine needles on it or something, film it, go home, and see how many crazy shapes you can make.

It's bound to have something recognizable, we apparently look for versions of the human face everywhere
 
like i said in the post you didnt read, i only used the site because of the pictures. there are hundreds of other sites out there with many many different angles on things, i just linked this one because there are a lot of pictures and i know NSers dont like to read...

But anyways hippie boy, far out pictures. One time I was looking at some clouds after I dropped my third table of acid, and just started my morning X regiment, and I SWEAR I saw Tony Danza, Jerry Garcia, and Humphrey Bogart tap dancing to Ol Blue Eyes Sinatra playing piano...IN THE CLOUDS!

In all seriousness, we all look for things that are mysterious or can provide a little safehaven or provide some quick answers when something that terrible happens. If you sit there and look for it, you, along with the photoshop tool box for contrast, dodge, burn, and blur, can find it. I'm sure it was there, but you've got to sit back and realize....

...or maybe the devil really was doing his work that day.

the way our brains work, we see stock patterns that we are familiar with in randomness- the pictures not really there, we're just only noticing the elements that fit into a picutre in our head because thats the way our minds have developed in order to see things. This is especialyl prnounced with faces because we spend so much time learning to recognize different ones

I think this is kind of like what the professor said in the movie "Pi". The guy was looking for the significance of the value of pi, so his mind saw it everywhere. If you are looking for faces in smoke, your mind will see them. Sure in some of the pictures the smoke looks like a face, but if you wanted to see a picture of a basketball or a clothes hangar in the smoke, you probably could find them also. This is also like the idea of that new Jim Carrey movie.
