Detuning skis

So I’m detuning my skis sometime this month and I was wondering if I should just do a basic under-the-boot detune or just get rid of the entire edge. I know that if I were to get rid of the edge completely I wouldn’t be able to carve, but can y’all give me some pros and cons ab detuning the whole edge vs just under the boot?

cons of detuning whole ski: you won't be able to ski

pros of detuning whole ski: none

cons of detuning underfoot: none

pros of detuning underfoot: you will be able to ski

^ what he said, I did it from the very tip of my binding to the very tail and have had no problems. Except if it’s mad icy but who can grip that anyways

holy fuck just detune everywhere its fun as hell ive never caught an edge and i feel swag as shit when i cant stop in the liftline

i file from in front of the binding to the back of the heel, i also file the edges in the tip from where the rocker starts, makes takeoffs way better and stops catching on takeoffs.

Yes, except you’ll still be able to notice an underfoot detune, you will still notice you have less effective edge. As stated, there are no pros of detuning your whole ski and you’ll have much much less control than just detuning underfoot. Detuning underfoot will still be noticeable skiing but will be well worth doing to prolong the life of your edges and to not catch on rails.
