Detuning my edges?

Well, I just got new boots, and my parents make me race, so I dropped off my invaders and my race skis at the local ski shop to get the bindings set to the new boots, and told them to tun up my race edges, but NOT my invaders. Anyways, they decided it would be a good idea to just tune both, and now, next time I hit a rail on my invaders, I can look forward to smashing my face when my now sharp edges catch.

So the question: How would I go about detuning my invaders' edges? how do I know how much to take off, what tool to use, what angle to go at? I don't want to take too much, since I use them outside the park, but enough that they won't catch on everything. Thanks.

Use a file to detune and then a gummi stone to deburr the edges. Just take the file and run it at a 45 degree angle to the edge. As for how much you should take off is all really up to preference. Don't take too much though as that will weaken the edge and leave you susceptible to edge cracks.

The curb of the sidewalk works great for detuning edges. Just go back and forth. Why do your parents make you race?

because his parents are stuck back in the racing days or want him to get a racing scholarship or somethin idk i don't know his parents yeah the curb works great for your edges haha

i detuned mine all of the years in the past slightly to keep them smooth and fresh, but at the end of last season when i was learning pretzels i realized that its a little harder to grip the rail when theyre detuned... so id say just have them in the middle: keep em smooth but dont round them

I use my skis to ride all mtn so i just de-tune the edges under my foot. that way I still have some edge left if I hit ice.

not to steal a thread but i had them not detune my edges when i mounted up my Scratch BC's but when i switch from my invaders to the BC's i look like a retard, i can barely ski.

safe to detune the bc's too??

also anyone know a site off hand to buy the proper tools to detune/maintain edges??

Yeah I know where you are coming from. My new skis were catching on every fucking thing in the park, so I got pissed and found a fairly smooth little rock and went back and forth. Worked like a charm.

why is everyone afraid to slide a rail with sharpened edges? you're not going to smash your face. just don't be a dummy and lean all forward. maybe i'm out to lunch on this one, but i like to have edges so i can grip on icy surfaces.

Well I think I just got used to having super dull edges around my underfoot so now when I have something sharp it just feels different. I never fell due to having sharp edges, it was just a weird feeling.

Alright I'll give it a try....and about the racing...it's so "I can have some extra curricular activities on my college application." Complete bullshit. All racing does for me is make me waste the first rn of the day re-adjusting to my invaders after a week of racing.
