Detuning edges

alright so im reletively new to freestyle and i heard that before you hit a rail or box with your ski you have to "detune" them.

Is this true and how do you do it if it is?

thanks +k for help

unless your using gs skis with edges like excalibur, it wont be that big of an issue. they will detune themsleves if you hit a lot of rails, just dong try to hit some chopped up box or something because you are slightly more likely to catch an edge.

Basically there are 3 options:1. Don't do anything - hit a lot of rails alternating skis (no boxes - you'll stick a lot with sharp edges)2. Metal File - this will bevel the edges therefore "detuning" them3. Gummy Stone - this will take all burrs off and slightly bevel the edges therefore "detuning" them
Personally, I do option 2, followed by Option 3, followed by Option 1 (in that order), it works out pretty well for me - I've never had an edge crack and rails and boxes are super smooth and slidey for me.
