Depression Metaphore, I need NS's Creativity!

Alright, I have to come up with a visual metaphor that represents the progression of the great depression.

It needs to include:

4 causes (one of which being the stock market crash)

Hardships Americans faced

Responses of presidents to the depression

1 criticism of the "New Deal"

Keep in mind you don't need to hit all those points in your idea. Your idea can be as broad or narrow as you would like. Help would be very much appreciated.

Serious or funny responses will receive karma.

It's a visual metaphore, similar to a political cartoon. But I agree, it's a lot to get in there. Any suggestions?

Lindsay Lohan - you can run yourself into the ground, but we'll always love you. just speaks to the fact that the big automotive 3 were putting out shitty cars and yet they were completely bailed out and given a second chance. whereas that self-centered slut keeps making bonehead decisions and her support group pamper her ass to the point that she doesn't learn from her retarded mistakes. the bailout resulted in zero accountability.
really dont know what you were looking for but whatever, lol.

From brand new "is this how a toy feels when it's batteries run dry" I always associate that with depression. It would be easy for a cartoon

This is not visual, but I believe it sums up what you are looking for:

"Pondering the future, my time of poverty, I can't help but wonder if I will have any friends, or if I will just be surrounded by strangers I can't understand. I ponder endlessly, in my abundance of idleness. My dreams bleak, like a terrible accident, culminating in a horrid crash. I've been assured time and again that there is hope, but all I see is a black hole, sucking me dry."

Key themes:

Future, poverty = Social Security failure

Abundance of idleness = being unemployed, unemployment rates

Surrounded by strangers who I can't understand = immigration problem

Car accident and crash = stock market crash

Hope = Obama's response to everything

Black hole could be interpreted as Obama, or as Obama being a black ...hole, but this is neither implied or expressly stated, and is up to the reader's prerogative.

it's like hunting a shark. you've spent your whole life hunting sharks and catching sharks and usually catching them on the first go. But one day you go in with the thought you're gonna get the shark. then when you have it on the hook, it takes the fucking hook and swims away. you chase the shark for years, living at sea. trying to kill this stupid shark. when finally, poseidon decides that you should be able to catch the shark. and he makes it a little easier for you. so you go to catch it, and it takes time. but eventually you get the shark in the boat. Then you sell it for a shit ton and you're not broke anymore.
the end.
this story also works with bears.
