Deleting the dead

Just a suggestion but would it be possible to make a program the would delete any ns accounts that havent been active in like 6 months or somthing like that, you could make a little pop up window that says ' you have not logged in within the last 6 months, and your account name and password nolonger exist.' or somthing to that effect, there seems to be so mant people that have names and have 0 posts and no profile set up, they dont come to the site on a regular bases and end up taking space on the site, each person may not be that much but with so many people not using their accounts it could probably add up. In my mind they are just useing up space limiting aspects of the site to others. Ie: video sizes. Also why not delete any of the pics or vids that are really old, and allow people to keep that stuff on their accounts and be able to trade any old pics they have individually.

Good Call, although I don't think accounts take up space if they aren't being used, I could be wrong though.

All the unactive members put together probably use less than 2 megs of space. For a member to exist, it only takes a couple hundred bytes.

The thing about picture and video size has nothing to do with SPACE, but rather, how much data is transfered. It's very expensive to have thousands of people download thousands of large files. So if there were 10 gig files sittingon the server, it would be really cheap, but if everyone was downloading them, we'd be broke.

cant you make it so that the videos automatically play when the page is opened so that people dont have to download? Kinda like an animi. but the space thing with vids was just an example, i thought all the unused account took up more space

Yeah what he said. Basically, if something is on a server somewhere, and it's playing on your computer, it HAS to have been downloading.

And as for wanting to have 10,000 members... I have to admit it sounds good, but that's not the primary reason for not deleting them. The main reason is: what will that help? It won't save space, it won't make anything go faster, or save bandwidth. And what happens when someone from 8 months ago comes on and doesn't have a name anymore? There's no reason really for that to happen.

send a huge message to every one and the ones tha don't reply in like 1 month or somthing deleat i bet you could make a program to do that

Ya, but like was said before... It's a tedious task which really doesn't do much of anything for the site.non-active members aren't hurting the site in any way, shape, or form.
