thats how i define it.

Hah well personally I've hated the name newschoolers.com for a looooong time... I think its just so 2001. But, that being said I think that we're stuck with it. Skilounge is alright, but it doesn't speak to what we are. Any generic ski names just don't suit it... freeskiing.com and freeskier.com are good, but taken. So don't think that you're going to be seeing a namechange anytime within the near future, we'd all decide that together and it would probably take a really long time.

To define newschool skiing though, I always give one very simple sentence to people that ask me.

"Skiing's answer to snowboarding."

Snowboarding isn't as fragmented as skiing because it got to start fresh. Kids got into it, and snowbarding was just snowbarding whether your rode pipe, park, BC, raced, whatever, its was just about going out and having a good time.

Newschool skiing to me means the new thought behind skiing, which all of the youth is embracing. You don't have to be just a racer, or just a recreational skier, park rat, big mountain guy, whatever... you can simply go out on the hill and enjoy whatever aspect of skiing you wish without worrying about it.

Thats what it means to me.

when old people ask what i mean i tell them " do you know what the kids do at the skatepark? well kinda like that but on snow"

for a def, i'd write; a type of skiing that sees particapants perform acrobatic and technical manuvers on jumps, rails and jibs with style as the important aspect.

oh yeah, and grabing.

yeah but i don't think that just skiing pow for example counts as new school. to me you have to be doing tricks. i didn't mean to imply that it was just park, bc is new school too so long as you do tricks - "acrobatic manuvres".

Newschool skiing to me is doing different thing on the mountain instead of going straight down a slope. Including park, backcountry jibin, urbaan jibin,or just messin aroud on the slopes doing butter, drags etc. or even making a rock on a slope that was oonce scenary some sort of jib where you can jib it and do stalls and that sort of thing on it

Newschool Skiing as defined by Wikepedia.com:

Newschool
skiing is a type of alpine skiing which involves advanced tricks, jumps, and terrain park features, such as rails. This form of skiing resulted from a combination of the growth in popularity of snowboarding as well as the progression of Freestyle skiing. "Newschoolers", or those who specifically ski in this style (as opposed to traditional freestylers, big mountain skiers, racers, etc.) are often found in terrain parks, which are designed specifically for tricks.
