Deep Thoughts: Why Snowboarding Sucks

Why Skiing is better then snowboarding...

As a skier, there is always room for improvment. A skier can never be the best but can always improve. Ask any old ski bum, they'll always tell you, they're skiing better then they ever have. and when you think about it, there is always some area you can improve on. Snowboarding it seems to me is different. Once you snowboard for 3 or 4 years, you're pretty good. there really isn't any terrain that you simply cannot do and do well. moguls, easy for snowboarder, big mountain, just the same as everywhere else. snowboarders reach the peak of their ability within a few years of starting, then just drag knuckles where ever they go. Skiiers on the other hand are always challenging and pushing not only their own limits, but the limits of the sport itself. and that is why skiing is just plain better. just had that thought in an arguement with a snowboarder, and shut him down, any thoughts?

 
I know at my mountain, I never see any decent snowboarders, none of them are charging gnar terrain, I never see them anywhere but groomers and the park.

We pay our debt sometimes.
 
yeah i snowboarded for about a year. just thought, 'is this it?' 'what else can i do on a board, do some tricks, okay' and decided to stick with skiing and get good at skiing, instead of mediocre at both.

 
yeah you're an idiot. snowboarding is pretty sweet. they definetely showed us skiers up in the pipe this year. check out the x-games snowboard pipe runs, then check out the skiing ones. we still have a long way to go in the way of style, not to mention, back to back 10s in the pipe.

The only difference is you guys have 2 boards we have one.... Lets try to move out of 6th grade and accept we are pretty much the same.

 
Moguls on a snowboard easy? I must not know the right guys then because everyone I have talked to has told me that moguls suck dick on a board.

It's all just a means to an end man. I like skis, someone else might like a board. What matters is pushing yourself and having fun.

There are a lot of boarders out there that are progressing. Personal progress is what matters.

 
I snowboarded for five years and here's my two cents: Skiing is easier to learn, harder to master, Snowboarding is harder to learn easier to master. You never 'reach an absolute peak' in either there's always more you can learn. on a side note= I personally thinks it hurts more to try and learn tougher tricks on a snowboard.

 
First off, you offered no evidence of snowboarders not progressing. That's what you're describing: progression. More specifically you're addressing individual progression.

Second, you're sterotyping an entire sport.

Third: how do you define a snowboarder's ability/desire to adapt? How did you become aware of this ability? Are you a snowboarder? Have you experienced the progression of a snowboarder?

You don't define how skiers are 'always able' to get better. Similarily, you don't define what limits snowboarders from getting better.

Bottomline: you're entire argument is an opinion and conjecture. You employ no rhetorical argument and thus fail to convince anyone.

I feel bad for you, but I feel really bad for the snowboarder you supposedly 'shut down' because anyone who buys your story is a fucking moron.

Dude, snowboarding and skiing both take years to Master, look at Plake, and the Look At Terje Haakinson (I completely botched his name). Both continue to push the support. Boarders just perfect technique as do skiers

I read on a box of Frosted Flakes that 9 out of 10 skiers look like twats on the hill. I don't think you can argue with that!

i don't know where you ride but i see some serisouly sick snowbaorders out here in the NW and a lot of the guys I ride with are taking gnarly lines and chraging all over the mtn. i think its more of where you are and who you see. I bet you don't see half of the snowboarders especilly the ones who are tossing down in the BC

i agree with whoever said that snowboarding is harder to learn easier to master, i tried to learn how to snowboard once, it was so hard compared to skiing, but a lot of things are easier on a snowboard than they are on skis and vice versa. i dont see why skiers and snowboarders cant just get along, i only hate snowboarders that are stuck up or only snowboard cuz they are posers that think snowboarding is the cooler sport

That was the most rediculous thread I have ever seen, whoever started it is so silly! If I wasn't lazy, and too scared to try a new sport, I would be snowboarding right now, and if I had the choice to be good at one or the other I honestly would choose snowboarding. The topic of which sport is 'better' is debatable and actually shoudlnt even be debated on, its fucking dumb. Snowboarding looks better (with the exception of people who snowboard because they heard someone cool say snowboarding is the shit, which is most of them, but those who are core riders are gnarly). Snowboarding seems to have a better vibe unlike some skiers think they are all that and a bag of potatoe chips. Snowboarding has better videos and magazines (running out of things to think about....). And snowboarding companies make cooler outerware, there!

do the chickens have large talons?
