Deep Dark Fears in Skiing

My left knee likes to dislocate when spinning right side. So, basically twisting my knee and something similar to snapping rubber bands. Eeesh makes my skin crawl.

Going off a huge ass jump and you get abducted by aliens cause your so good and then they worship you. And then they rape you so hard you tear your ACL

slipping out on a rail and hitting my face with my goggles first and them shattering and stabbing me in the eyes and i go blind and my life is ruined and i end up killing myself out of the depression i get from not being able to ski or see anymore and it destroys my family and separates them and they end up being sent into a spiraling depression because they realize they just lost their son to the one thing he loved doing and my family then develops a fear of skiing and never goes again and they end up living alone and getting obese and dying from diabetes

that and i worry about ACLs and shit so i dont tighten my dins too much usually

Getting fully analed from an FKS/Pivot heel. Can you imagine the tearing the ribbed heel would cause on the way back out?

Scary.

Scary.

Personally this was one of the best selling points for me.

Definitely ACL. I don't know if its true or not, but my employer told me that an ACL replacement surgery cost $100,000.00 (not sure what insurance would cover...) but that scares the shit out of me still.

so happy i live in Canada, free healthcare:)

Shredding off piste and seeing what looks like a small hit and then realising as your in the air that it is actually a 60ft cliff with plenty of rocks to help break your fall.

Or ACL, that'd probably suck too.

Surprised no one has said this yet... Doing a screamin seamen and not uncrossing your legs. I just feel like it would absolutely fuck everything in your legs if you land hard enough

This is the reason I've never attempted one

I'm very scared for the day I'm no longer flexible enough to come out of a scorpion roll without breaking my back. Being paralyzed is my worst fear.

Also terrified of ripping through the trees and getting a branch through the eye or something.

Anything chairlift related is also scary as hell.

Some mentioned pulling ski off doing a mute. Done that, from a pretty small jump tho. Felt funny in a weird way, just holding the ski in hand.

Also i was mad scared to land in screaming semen. Then that happened from a bigger jump, almost rode away (claim). That felt pretty funny too, could've gone way worse.

Huh? if it was just a small surface release in some trees, why would you report it?

i typically am hiking to the outer reaches of the resort to find fun stuff and my biggest fear is going headfirst into a tree well and not beiing found till the spring.

And being paralyzed. worse than quick death.

having a ski blow off and come up into my neck slicing my carotid artery.

maching down a groomer, having a ski blow off or lose an edge in the middle of a turn and go sliding/tumbling into the trees at 50+mph.

having a slab release on me while above exposure on something i was going to billygoat down because of the tight, shitty runout.

losing and edge and taking out a a gaper...especially a small child.

you're right, but I just figured any sort of slab break should be reported. Some homie told me this on the chair last year, and thought it was some good advice. just tryna look out for other shredders is all.

watched a video on some horror stories about dudes going into trees yesterday at work. Being the patroller that has to deal with the guy with a caved in face would be absolutely horrible.

I retract all of my previous statements and fears. Tonight while night skiing at gunstock tops them all. On the park lift, halfway up, completely empty because it was kinda drizzle/raining, me my brother and friend were the only ones on the chair lift at the time when it stops. how it does when someone falls at the top or bottom. This time it didn't start back up.... we sat there, in the rain, with the winds rocking us back and forth, when all of a sudden the lights that usually light up the park (no park, still pre season) turn off... so now the lift stopped working, the lights are out, and the chair is rocking and i am shitting myself. Luckily the lights come back on after a minute or so. No idea what actually happened because they wouldn't say but we were sitting there on the swinging chairlift for a solid 13 minutes, and you learn to appreciate just how long 13 goddamn minutes actually are. Only thing I could think of was the chair at Sugarloaf (ironically I made a sarcastic joke to my brother about it after a minute of sitting there)

Getting the tails of my skis clipped from behind when flying down a groomer. Happened to me last year and I broke my wrist, now I ski on the edge of the the trail and constantly look behind my self when going down a groomer.

you know how i know you ski too slowly?

Injuring either of my knees

Tree wells

Slides

Getting an assault charge for wrecking another skier by accident (is this possible?)

Curb stomping myself on a rail (already had braces in middle school no way am i doing that shit again)

Spinal injuries

UNDERPANTS GNOMES

...guess skiing terrifies me but thats also probably why i enjoy it so much
