Deciding on a Powder Ski

I live in utah and my pow ski for two year has been the Line Mordecai 2015/2016 i think 179cm... I am 195 and 5 foot 11 inches, just trying to see what options fit best.

Ive been looking at the Line Magnum Opus, since I love the Mordecai, and I heard the opus' are great skis. But for Crud they are kind of lightweight and will bounce you around, which led me to the the..

Surface Daily ski, which i would shoot for a 191 CM with a 120mm under foot. Wondering what you guys know about either ski, or have any suggestions for a Pow ski which can handle every day conditions such as groomers and be a crud buster.

I haven't, it's just one of the skis that gets a ton of cred for a wide ski that charges and can do it all. It's loved here and over at blistergear.

Bibby along with the new and improved Bibby, the Wildcat are legendary for a reason. They aren’t heavy yet can charge crud, are super stable at speed yet can make shorter turns too. Have a more forward mount yet all types of skiers can ski it from more technical skiers to freestyle skiers.

They haven’t changed much over the last few years until last year where they improved construction and materials used in them and changed to the Wildcat name. About 150 grams lighter yet ski even better I hear.

Have skied the Mordecai and prefer it over the Opus as it has a beefier flex(but still not very stiff) and it’s heavier. So the Opus would be worse in crud for sure.

The Wildcat in 184cm is stiffer than any of the Line powder skis and the mount is further back at 6cm but it’s still very easy to spin. Stiffer underfoot but playful tip/tail with longer turning radius let it charge but be playful when wanted. It is the definition of playful charger.

You skied the Mordecai in too short a length for 195lbs I think as the 186cm would have been more stable. The 184cm Wildcat would be far more stable still than even the 186cm Mordecai even though it weights less. The Wildcat 190cm is incredibly stable but not quite as fun and playful for your size.

Clutch Info, thanks man, just a couple follow up questions:

I think im on the same track, as far as the stiffer ski, now that i think about it, the Opus would be good if you were only getting those powder days. The Wildcat is growing on me for sure.

How would you rate the Moment Wildcat to say the Volkl Revolt or some ON3P's?

Also would you say a 184 cm length would be better than 190? I have a pair of Faction CT 3.0 at 182 and i feel like they are super short.

Go 190 moment wildcat and you won’t look back, maybe even mount it +1 or 2 if you like being centered.

If you have 182cm CT 3.0 and they feel short the Mordecai at 179cm must feel REALLY short then!

I wouldn’t say the 190cm or 184cm for your size is “better”, just slightly different skier types. If you were over 6’ 2”/220 , the 190cm is a no brainer but at your size you could do either. As skis get longer they also get stiffer and heavier and take more weight to flex. The only mediocre reviews I see for the Bibby is from a person around my size(175 lbs) who likes skiing tighter areas and gets the 190cm and finds it too much ski and not playful. For your size you would find the 190cm more stable, better at speed and more of a charger. The 184cm would be a more playful ski that can still haul.

As f100prerunner mentioned, you can always move forward the binding mount a cm or 2 to make it pivot easier and ski like a shorter ski. One of the reasons your CT 3.0 skis shorter is the more forward mount. So if you choose the 184cm I’d stay at recommended and if you choose the 190cm go forward a bit.

Haven’t skied the Revolt 124, just the 95 and 87. Confession is a good ski but more traditional mount. Revolt 124 weighs a ton I see so would be a lot of work whipping that ski around.

ON3P are fantastic skis and the Kartel 116 would be the closest to the Wildcat I think. The Wildcat would be lighter but stiffer and more of a charger than the Kartel. The Kartel would have more of a freestyle ski that’s great all over vibe and the Wildcat is a ski that can charge that’s still playful.

How about the comparison to the K2 catamaran or Faction CT 4.0, sorry to bug you again, just trying to get the most information before I drop dough
 
Personally, I really like the Icelantic Nomad 125. It's pretty big but still does groomers really well. Super nice at speed but is able to pivot on a dime which is pretty neat.

The Catamaran would be a softer flexing, more jibby ski that would be more similar to something like the Kartel 116. Heavier too than the Wildcat yet doesn’t charge like it does.

The Candide 4.0 would be much more similar to the Wildcat in flex and weight but still think the Wildcat would be more stable yet playful than even it. Build quality wouldn’t be quite as good as the Wildcat either.

Seen a few reviews of Bibby owners who now have Wildcats are they all can’t believe how they are lighter yet even better than the Bibby was.
