Deciding between 2012 Volkl Wall, 2012 K2 Recoil and 2012 Domain

I was planning to buy one of these last season but ended up waiting to this upcoming season(my rosi s4's are pretty beat with various edges cracks and have turned into urban/teaching ski's)

I'm 6"2, 150lbs,

I ski 40% Mountain (Mostly groomers and moguls, very occasionally some powder around 2-3 feet deep but I have dedicated pow skis for deep days).

60% park which is 80% jib, and 20% jumps. I tend to jump around on groomers, doing 180's, messing around switch, etc.

Buddy of mine rides the recoils which seem bombproof but on the heavier side, especially side compared to my rossis

The domains are a possibility but seem to park restricted.

I'm curious about the walls, since they have a faster race base, are fully cambered and fully symmetrical. I'm just not sure if they will outlast the k2's.

Any input would be great.

A race base is not a good idea for jibs. It is designed fo speed and gives up some durability to achieve this. Skis designed specifically for jibbing have very durable bases at the expense of speed. So I advise against a race base if you're hitting non-snow objects regularly. Unless you can afford new skis every few months

this and the domains have the durable base described above. recoils are more of an all mountain twin since you can mount them traditionally or a few back from center.

get the wall. a solid ski with good jib and all mountain capabilities. if u have a bigger budget the kink might also be good for you

the race base will hold up provided that you maintain it properly. keeping it waxed will keep it harder and less prone to damage. the extruded base on the domains is slower and isn't as pourous so it dries out faster, is slower but will hold up with less maintenance

Thanks for the info!

Base durability isn't as important as edge durability. My Rossignols bases are still unharmed, it's just the edges that have suffered. I know k2 uses very thick edges on their skis (3.5mm i think) but I have no idea how tough volkls edges are in park skis. I think I'd prefer the walls so far since they share more characteristics with my s4's which I really enjoyed when they were "fresh." I am curious about the all terrain rocker in the recoils and how it handles in soft snow, and jibs/butters (i've only done jumps and groomers with a buddys set of recoils).

but both ski's sound excellent and price could determine the purchase

Also, forgot to ask about mounting. I know the walls should be centered, but what about the recoils? I was thinking 1 cm back

I love my walls. Ive had two pairs over the years and cant say a bad thing about them. Wicked in the park, tough as nails, and shred all mountain. Hell I raced someh gates last year in a center mounted pair of walls! Mostly for shits and giggles, but mine times werent half bad.

It sounds like I really can't fuck up, I'll probably get the walls unless there's a major price difference, thanks.

I have walls 185 and the edges are still holding up after three seasons. super stable and wrather stiffer ski.

i have the k2 domains and they are bombproof i think, ive been using the domains for 3 seasons just got the new ones this year and there amazing!!!! there not that heavy and they are perfect for rails and jibs and there pretty stable on jumps with the jib-rocker!! you should try them out!

Well I'm going to the shop today so I guess we'll see what they still got. But who knows, all my options sound durable and just pain good. Whatever's cheapest will probably be mine. One question about the domain, how well does it ski groomers? I know it won't be amazing but is it any good outside the park, even tree's?

yes its actually pretty good on groomers, I've skied it on groomers for a whole day because the mountain my friend took me had no park (which sucked) but it skied very good in my opinion on the groomers, it held up really well it didn't shake at all going at high speed !! the Domains are a awesome ski i really recommend you get them!!

Sadly they were out of older wall's in my size, only 161 remain and there are no more recoils. There are some domains in a 179 which would really be 183. being 6'2 this seems like it'll fit well, and mounting will be easy (center). Will probably bite the bullet and sang them.

yeah you wont regret getting them!! if you do that should be a good fit because k2 skis always run bigger then they say they do

Well the lower price point, and jib specific profile of the domain's got me pretty sold. Gonna go out tomorrow and see if I can't snag a pair.

I just got mine today for 290 this years model!!!!!!!!!!! im totally stoked i cant wait for this winter to come!!! what kind of bindings did you get on them??

Probably gonna swap head mojo's I currently have on my beat rossi's but The brake width might be to small, so I may have to find new bindings.
