Decent video editing program?

so i wanna start making videos and windows movie maker won't take the gopro and other video files... So i was looking for an easy to use editing program that doesn't take too much memory and is free...

Avid Media Composer if you have 2000 stashed in a shoe box by the train tracks. But seriously, best/most widely used (professionally) software out there.
