Death to the Terrain Park as we Know it

good lord, they said he flew 110 feet, this guy was haulin ass coming into the jump

it was his fault for hitting it with too much speed

yeah, it was a 25 foot jump. the only reason he fell 37 feet was cause you add the 35 feet from the landing area to the flat.

i hit the jump, nothing wrong with it. the kid who died was trying a backflip and landed on his neck, it could happen off any jump. the landing was a little short, but i see shorter all the time, take winter park for example, their landings aren't much bigger than the lips. it's all relative, it wasn't the best jump, but not the worst, and it was a smaller jump too.

did the jury realize that the jump didnt throw you 37 feet in the air if you wernt a dumbfuck and landed in the flat?

I knew I read that he over shot the jump by a million feet somewhere a while back, this guy doesn't deserve anything. He owned himself because he didn't know how to ski. I know I sound like an ass hole but this case should have gotten thrown out after it showed that he overshot the jump because he had no Idea what he was doing

this thread is making me sick. its so stupid to give people money for being retarded and hurting themselves. any jump is dangerous if you hit it too fast because you're stupid as shit. this is comparable to someone sueing a mototcycle company becuase they were trying to do a headstand on the handlebars and fucked themselves up. and to whoever said that terrain parks will never die look at skateboarding in the 80's. there were halfpipes everywhere until people started suing...the sport is just now making a comeback. we were basically skateparkless for the 90's

after reading his myspace i sure am glad he didnt get hurt doing that twisty spinny thing on his wakeboard instead of while skiing, i mean fuck who would he of sued if he got hurt in that wakeboard picture on his myspace.

lucky man with all his spectactical displays of extremeness got hurt in a situation which left him able to sue.

He woulda've sued the boat driver for going too fast and causing an "irregular wake" which caused him to wreck himself.

Clearly.

Go back and ReRead the story, he may have won 14 million, but if you read the last sentence, it will cost him around 23 million to stay alive. Yes you are correct no one needs 14 million but you are talking about be paralized. Way different.

in the article it says his medical fees are estimated to cost between 23-26 million

but im guessing insurance will pay for that so your right...

it wouldn't surprise me if Boyne chose not to build jumps this year, but i'm almost certain Nub's will have jumps. JB (general manager at Nub's) is a badass mofo and he'd punch a kid in the face if he paralyzed his own ass and tried to sue.

i broke my back a couple seasons ago... when ski patrol got to me and asked me what happened, the first words out of my mouth were "i was being stupid." take some fucking responsibility for yourself. yeah, you were paralyzed, that sucks, but don't make life shitty for the rest of us. now that you're paralyzed, i hope you get IBS so you randomly shit your pants, but can't feel it.

just reread some of that second article... he went 110ft. i guess you can't say he didn't give'r. go big or go home in a wheelchair, i guess.

alrite so i do see both sides of this story, the guy's injury may have been his fault and responsiblilty but keep in mind that he did become paralyzed - an injury a step down from death, someone mentioned tat he was a gaper because a true freeskier would just fall - maybe break a bone - and get back up, this dude became paralyzed, he cant just get back up and go back to skiing fuck the guy can't even walk, he's pretty much screwed for the rest of his life - the question therefore becomes is it reasonable to sue the mountain and ski industry - i really don't know it makes sense that the guy would want some compensation for an injury tat will really fuck up the rest of his life but at the same time the mountian isn't necessarily the one at fault -most of the people on here simply complained about how ridiculous lawsuits have become today, so i considered the position he's now in and if you really think about it, his situation is very difficult and may not be as one sided as most ppl here seem to think

Dude, you are COMPLETELY wrong.

It was HIS FAULT ENTIRELY, meaning he needs to take FULL responsibility. If you slip down the Grand Canyon because you were trying to take a picture of the bottom, will you sue the government for making the road for you to go there? it's just stupid. Yes, in his situation, I would think it would be nice to have some sort of money. However, getting that money from someone who is in NO WAY responsible for your injury is nothing short of stealing.

i agree tat his injury is completely his fault and in no way the mountain's - but at the same time he is in a severe situation where he'll be paralyzed for life and would want money - i was wrong by mentioning the mountain as means of recieving this money since they really aren't responsible - and while i dont kno how he'd otherwise get it without out stealing by sueing the mountian, i understand that he mite want some compensation

on a sidenote - i read the dude's blog and he really has been a douche about the situation

if this is true, it means i will have to drive fucking 6 hours now just to get to a resort that has jumps. and what people dont realize is that there is no BC or bigmountain in michigan. its parks or groomer shit, and only 500' of it.

well i live in michigan and im fucked as a result of this kid.

did cher sue when bono skiied into a tree? i doubt it.

got this off his myspace thing:

Contrary to what they might think, this verdict won't raise the prices of their tickets or shut down their terrain parks, but revolutionize the way they are built to ensure that no matter how big or small either a novice skier or an expert rider with 20 years experience such as myself goes off these jumps, injuries from overshooting their landings will be completely avoided.

so basically he's saying that because of his win, park builders are gonna find a way to build a jump that if you overshoot you won't hurt yourself....okayyy then buddy

he sounds like a pretty good guy, but if he overshot the jump, it's 100% his fault and the verdict is bullshit

I mean yeah that resort should be held responsible for building the jump crappy. But other than that it is the skiers fault if they get hurt i mean if the feature is built right it is only your fault you get hurt.

HAHHAHA

an expert with 20 years experience isn't going to mach into a 30 footer and break his neck. What a claimer.

I think I have a couple somewhere on my desktop computer. I'll check when I get back to school. I can tell you now that it didn't look poorly engineered, and I never got hurt on it, and I have absolutely no idea how on earth he fell 37 feet to flat. Even if he tucked from the top, it doesn't seem to me like he could've gotten that kind of height.

It's interesting how some people handle sitautions differently. A person like Marc-Andre has an oh shit moment, paralyze themselves, and deal with it like champs. No whining, no trying to point the blame, and just overall being the best damned role-model there is.

While someone else wrecks themselves is immediately out there whinning and looking for a handout.

It sucks he's not going to move ever again, but guess what, life's not fair, and nature certainly isn't either.

And for numb-nuts here (literally) to sit there and say that now they will "engineer" jumps so that an expert and novice can hit the same jump is foolish and absurd. Completely impossible.

As for his medical costs? He should've had his own personal health insurance to cover injuries and damages. Especially if he was participating in such a high-risk sport.

I agree it might actually be a good thing. This will force the mountains to build better-engineered jumps with better landings and a safer overall result. Also, it may be a pain in the ass in the beginning but a better park pass system where one has to earn the pass not just watch some stupid video would be in order and would make it more fun for the rest of us!

i dont not think this is right in anyway but im just saying alot of times its the insurance companies that drive families of the injured to sue. Think about it, insurace companies are just trying to make money, they dont want to be shelling out millions of dollars for peoples medical bills. Thats what happened at my school, kid cut class, went drag racing, wrapped his car around a telephone pole. the insurance company played a huge role in driving his family to sue the school

thats such bullshit - the school was completely unrelated to the accident, sueing really has become ridiculous today i really hope the family lost that lawsuit, oh and i remember a while back some burgular was climbing into a house from the roof but accidently fell through it, broke his back or something, sued the ppl who owned the house and won - if someone knows his name or could find the ariticle tat would be sweet

Anyone who says he doesn't deserve it is crazy. He deserves all that and more. His life is over.. I'd award that amount even if he was a para.

However, now that I read..

Its f'ed that 15 people were injured on the same jump. That resort needs to get their shit straight.. that or implement park passes so noobs aren't killing themselves.

what the fuck is this paralyzed shit does every paralyzed person get like 30 million dollars from the government

this cocksucking faggot piece of shit gets 14 million dollars.

what did mark andre bellevue get?

I hope that somebody fucking around in a wheelchair kills himself, so they sue wheelchairs and make wheelchairs illegal so this faggot quadrupelegic has to sit on the floor in a pile of his own shit for the rest of his miserable life.

if you think about it...

maybe god knew that the kid was going to sue if he got, thats why he paralyzed him.

so in backwards order, his punishment for suing the snow is being paralyzed.

So there you go faggot, enjoy your 14 million dollars worth of diapers. sorry you didnt get 31 million cause then you could have afforded pampers.

Already have them at MT Creek in NJ. Keeps the old people, and random families that like to ski the terrain park as if it was just any other green slope, but it doesn't help with the noobs because they can cough up the $5 to get a pass.

thats so fucking stupid..... 14 million dollars just because HE was a dumbass and couldnt hit a jump...thats so stupid

i'd be soo pissed if they ever take the jumps out at stevens pass because of something like that

its not the resorts fault his life sucks now. its his fault for being a dumbshit. i accept the fact that i could seriously hurt or kill myself everytime i go in the park and its my decision. people need to be responsible for thier own actions. its not like a liftchair fell on him he was the one who went into the jump going mach-dumbass.

We need to do something about this! We're 100,000 strong on this site, and we con make an impact! I say we rally the fuckin' troops and make a statement.

i'd like to see what coefficient of kinetic friction that UC Davis prof used for snow.

maybe kenny should sue his ski and wax company for making him go too fast.
