Death Causing new Skiing rule at many slopes.

I just finished reading the post about someone getting in trouble for skiing with headphones on. Many people don't understand why there is this new rule because obviously anyone who has a clue about skiing is able to listen while skiing. However it's the skiers who don't know what their doing who are ruining it for the rest of us. Recently a girl died while skiing when she had an acident with a snowmobile. The snowmobile had it's sirens on and was cruising on a cat track when the girl skied in front of it and was run over...just clearing up any questions of why this rule was made...incompetence.

 
thats gay...i mean, i feel bad for the girl and her family but the snowmobilier shouldnt have been that close to her...i mean, ive ridden them before and you can turn...thats bullshit man

 
The girl had headphones on? If not then that has no relavence to the anti-headphone rule at all.

skiing with headphones that block out all outside noise IS dangerous. i did it once and all i could think about was how i would never hear a snowcat or a sled coming up behind me. the headphones i use now still allow you to hear everything going on

Hopefully helmet manufacturers take this into account when they make helmets with built-in headphones.

usally when i ski with my best bud we crank our music way up and when we talk were probally yelling at each other must be really funny to watch

I like it loud and airtight around the ears so I can't hear shit around me. I've never once worried about shit around me, I mean, I'm not gonna run itno something because of headphones, I look where I'm going. Someone might run into me, and yes odds are better if I can't hear it coming... but what the hell is gonna hit me, where Im from the onyl thing would be an out of control rider yelling how out of control they are. But really what are the odds that that'd happen and more so that I'd be severly injured.... not enough to take off my headphones

yea i was in vail when that girl died, she was 13 and warming up for a race, i don't think it was the music that was at fault but her not paying attention when in the race world you are ALWAYS around snowmobiles, and like why wasn't the snowmoble in more control to avoid the girl, the driver should have been more around of his surroundings too. i listen to music all the time when i see i can see hear a cat or a sled coming, also how did she not see the sled, they have huge flags on them. its horrible about her death i just have soo many questions that weren't answerd in the vail daily

1. not everyone likes the same music at the same time.

2. Listening with only 1 phone in is really annoying, it gives me a headache cuz one ear is concentrating or whatever and the other isnt.

3. if youre gonna wear headphones when riding, just leave the volume low enough to hear people. 90% of the time i listen to music, whether skiing or not, i have the music so low i can still carry on a normal conversation.

Just Buy Ear Buds There Cheaper And Tou Dont Have To Worry About Them Breaking If You Crash, or if get them wet. Plus You Dont Block Out All Sounds.

Anyone on here who believes that wearing headphones while skiing, biking, running, whatever doesn't reduce the attention given to the rest of what is going on probably believes that talking on cellphones dont statistically result in higher collisions when driving.... Ya.. Ipsos-Reid make all their numbers up.

Sure chances are that you won't have an accident, let alone a devastating or fatal one.

However.. that is still taking a chance.. an additional chance to all the others we take just skiing.

How dumb would you feel if you were rippin down at the end of the day at dusk, tunes cranked and didn't hear the winch-cat siren?..

Sure, we all like to listen to tunes.. but just keep in mind that your own safety is always an issue.. why take chances..

It definitely could have been the driver's fault, my friend was nearly hit by a snowmobile and he wasn't wearing headphones, all you need is a blind spot and a retarded snowmobile drive going 40mph up the most crowded trail on the hill.

wearing headphones too loud is dangerous. i was setting up to disaster this rail so naturally i was further back from the rest of the lineup. i had my buddy let the guys in the lineup know i was gonna be haulin ass through where they were sitting so they all moved. i screamed dropping and all was cool. then just as im about to go through the crowd this snowboarder with huge ass headphones on so loud i could hear them stands up and slides right into the narrow path i had. i had to snowplow for my life, jump over his board, and then avoid the rail in my near bail. and then he got mad at me for almost plowing into him. that shit is wrong we both coulda been hurt bad cuz i was flying, keep the volume low at least.
