Death at Freeskiing Championsips

best wishes and prayers to the nicoletta family.... this is such another tragic blow to the industry.

damn, thats terrible. scary shit for sure. RIP best wishes to family and friends.

yah i know what your sayin man it seems like there have been a lot more deaths than usual this year. that must really scary falling from 100 feet to rocks i cant even imagine that. RIP

That article's account of what happened is not correct according to what I've heard from numerous friends who were there, and unfortunately has to witness it. Nicoletta was taking a line several others had skied, dropped a 20-footer, lost control, and got tossed into a highly exposed, rocky area.

Regardless, this is so sad. He was an amazingly vibrant person and skier. I guess now he can ski pow all the time.

This article is way off. We were called the day it happened and told he landed funky off a 20 footer and threw him into a rock field. Either way, RIP.

theres a rip nicoletta facebook group

you should join it, i did, to remember that what we do is dangerous, and if we dont repect the mountain (he did) we will be taken from the mountains

The competition was held on a normally out-of-bounds run at my mountain. Many of my friends witnessed the crash and from what I'm told, that article is innacurate.

There was a line that not many people hit that involved a 20 foot cliff, and then a narrow exit. If you didnt make this exit in time, you would essentially go down a 60 ft field of rocks (a really mellow cliff in other words). After hitting the 20 footer, he caught his edge and fell and started tamahawking down the rocks. I heard it was the gnarliest crash any had ever seen on a big mountain line.

RIP, I hate to hear sad stuff like this.
