What are the chances there will be snow Jan 11th to the 18th. Have you heard of any extended forecasts or something? I may want to change my trip arrangements.

even if we get a decent sized storm between now and then, a lot of shit will still be closed. squaw is bare, northstar has man made snow on about 30 runs, heavenly is in the same shape as northstar, kirkwood has A run open, alpine has maybe 5... it's fucking rough right now.

So you are saying that even if you get dumped on most terrain will not be available due to the snow pack being so new? This sucks I got the flights booked but I just dont want to waste my first trip out west. I think we migh just drive up to bachelor or something

I may be abandoning ship..

a lot of stuff out here takes a larger snow pack to open than back east due to the large boulders and downed trees. unlike back east, the resorts don't manicure the runs as much. thus resulting in larger snowpacks being needed. the fact of the matter is though, we usually measure storms out here in feet not inches, if we get one good dump between now and then it'll be amazing for you, i wouldn't bag your trip, but i wouldn't count out renting a car and driving north either.

Yea I think were going to rent a prius and chase the snow if it comes to it. Luckily were staying with a friend in south lake so I dont have to cancel hotel reservations.

Is bachelor the best and closest place for good snow if it comes to it?

There is some snow up there but you might have to fight with rain too. Mamouth could be a good bet.

Mammoth is almost as dry as Tahoe.

Bach is probably the closest bet. Shit Utah is as close as bach.

Think of that...

Yeah, if I were you I would definitely plan on getting out of the Tahoe area. Mammoth is the best place to ski in the state right now. They have done a great job making snow and the park isn't too bad and is probably going to get better over the next week or two.

Yeah but tom wallisch and b dog films there so even if there isn't any snow it's a way better...

See now that there is no snow I've resorted to trolling and getting drunk all the time.

On an up note I did learn some sweet stuff at kirkwood's bag jump.

Go to Utah. It's just as close and has alot of fun terrain. Bach is a large feature-less valcano. I wouldn't waste your first trip out west there either. I know for a fact everything in the northwest is going to get one maybe two good cold storms that are going to miss Tahoe and Probably Utah. Take a look at NOAA and Head towards Jackson or southern Colorado.

14 day forecast =

Utah has had a terrible season too so far... Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, and Washington are the best bets in the west. Utah and Tahoe are shit. Jackson hole is a good option if you're willing to fork out.

Bachelor right now has a pretty sick park, actually... and yeah, its mostly flat - a la Northstar, but it has full coverage on just about anything they open everywhere around and between runs. The weather's pretty solid too these days, as they are getting Tahoe weather. They also have a deal going thats like 4/5 days shredding for 99$ - pretty damn banger for a trip where you can at least shred some solid park and then some.

we may be getting snow next week but its not gonna be enough to open anything besides more groomers
