Dear NS - Why is your video uploading system so finicky?

Dear Newschoolers
As much as possible I try to upload video directly onto the site. This proves difficult as sometimes it will work instantly, while others it takes multiple re-logins to get the sought after "moving line". Why can't you have a reliable system like Vimeo? Surely if it was as constant as Vimeo's every video would be uploaded onto the site and not embedded. If anyone has any suggestions as to how to increase my success rate it would be much appreciated.

I found when I went back to IE it works a lot better. Using Firefox and Chrome I usually end up getting the moving line for hours on end.
 
Just embed the videos for now until we get our shit together.

There is no current solution for making the system better... we have had the same video system for like 8 years and its just way too old. Took a ton of work to rip it out and fix it... so its not ready yet.

Eventually the new system will launch and everyone will be happy. But we won't put it out until its ready.

 
Once Doug stops giving adding more features so we rival YouTube, it will be ready. ;)
But in all seriousness, sometime in spring. It will boast a new uploader with progress bar & ETA, media management inerface, HD 720p video and a new delivery network, custom channels for every member, etc.. There's also even a few sick surprises once we dial it all in.
 
yea but hopefully when the video section gets revamped it will revive it and everyone can upload to NS again and kids will start looking in the video section again
 
Everything that is there will stay - including embedded videos.

As for everyone saying that Vimeo is pimp... well yeah it is, and we get that. We're trying to offer a comparable quality system with the resources we have... but its hard to beat a business that is fueled with so much venture capital and doesn't have to make a profit.

Once our system is launched (which spring is the hopeful idea however it was actually supposed to be finished about 2 years ago to give you an idea how late this has gotten) we'll see if you guys like it and can be enticed to host your stuff on here.

We're trying to keep skiing within skiing, not as a part of San Francisco venture capital jerk-off ring.

Here's a question... is it only the quality of vimeo that is what entices you to put videos on there?

i deff like vimeo because of the quality also because i have a slight dislike for youtube.
 
Everything will be imported into the new system. All your media will still be there.
 
I like vimeo because it has great quality, and it is much more organized than youtube. I don't upload anything to youtube anymore.
 
I like vimeo not really for the video quality like HD and stuff, but the videos hosted on Vimeo are usually better quality videos like in substance. It also seems to be more Filmer Friendly which I also like
 
Quality, having stats that reflect the views of the video more accurately, Easy to edit video description (thumbnails), you can easily replace the video file by reuploading an updated version of the video (uploads to the same URL). There is a lot of reasons. Stats are huge though.
