Dear NS, surprisingly you are not a judge

So get over it and stop wasting space. When I haven't been on NS in a few days I think there might be an enjoyable thread in SG, but then I logged in and am exasperated.

We get it, judging is completely subjective. People will have differing opinions. And, for you to say that you know better than people who have been in freeride skiing all their life - that is ridiculous.

Okay, I'm done. But seriously, let it go

you know what the definition of insanity is?

doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

You are fucking insane. get over it.

you are just adding to the clusterfuck of reposted useless garbage that you claim to be exasperated by.

nay, i think if enough of us show are concern for how freesking is judged maybe they will actually change. optimism is a good thing right?

Wow, where the hell did you come up with this useless post?

This thread already has more value than the garbage threads about judging that already clutter the SG forums. It helps to get his point across better as well.

Everything with any kind of subjectivity will always create discussion and controversy, why can't it be discussed? It just shows that there are people who're excited and passionate about the matters.

Still, this site more than any other place right now is probably full of people who have been freeskiing their whole lives, and starting to become more like that with every passing day as people like yourself take their kids out to the slopes at a young age and freeskiing, and at least newschool aspect and its competition and style-focused side, are already existing things, unlike when we were kids.

A lot of the pros and competitors who as well are concerned with the state of judging have also been skiing all their lives, just as the many pioneers of newschool who often sit behind the judges' table, and have also been a part of NS since its humble beginnings, like Jacob to mention the most vocal of them.

This thread could be used to bring out anyone who has been a judge at some event, and tell what event, how the scores were factored and if you thought it was easy or hard to put down a fair score.

If you wouldn't mind starting?

Any comps i have done the judges only judge jumps in a slopestyle comp. They don't even have judges near the rails. Also a kid won a railjam at my mtn with a misty 5 on a jump that was meant to be used a s a means to stall on a tire. What do you think about that?

Sports are all about debating games, scores, performance, etc... they do the same thing in the Olympics and make TV shows about it. Same stuff happens on ref's calls in hockey, football... you name it. Debate around sport is what fans do.

Endless debate is the best part about being a fan.

Fan, afterall is short for Fanatic.

Time for NS to produce a little after-competition debate webisode series?

With experts from both the style and technicality sides of the argument, rail heroes and jump jocks, and of course Proferror Steve Stepp with the final word, peering into the future.

I see an opportunity right there.

^that would be good. better than the shitclusterfuck of threads I see on here calling out pros and telling them that they suck or that they're ruining skiing. keep a moderated debate going and all will be better.

it also could be really entertaining...seeing as how we have a lot more freedom as a website than ESPN or NBC or anything, the commentary could get ridiculous.

That actually is a super good idea... we don't have the capabilities to do that right at this moment, but I'll definitely flag that as something we should look at doing.

We could pretty much do popular votes after big contests with the poll system thats already on NS, yeah? Be interesting to see if we could get the judging guidelines for each comp too...

awesome idea.

As for this thread. Its kind of pointless.

1. This thread just adds to the nonsense it claims to condemn. 2. People should have every right to express their views and contest scores. Lets face it, it certainly seems to me that this type of judging of only "future spins" is taking skiing in the wrong direction.

What's wrong with coming on a skiing website to discuss the latest contest results? Seems like this is the perfect place for this, and discussions about who should've placed where have been taking place on this website for years and years, and I imagine they'll continue as long as newschoolers exists.

I don't really understand why this would surprise or bother anyone. If you don't want to hear about it, don't click on the thread....simple as that, problem solved.

I just watched a documentary about Christian Hosoi last night. And it was funny because they spent a good portion talking about how he an Tony Hawk were going head to head all the time. And there was one camp that thought Tony Hawks tech was superior, and another that thought Hosoi's style was better skating.

Some things never change.

It was an all girls rail jam, and there for four skier girls. I felt super bad about choosing the top three and there only being one who didn't place.... :/

and pro is short for professional but somehow the retards on this site think that college kids with minimum wage jobs that get free stuff are pros.

fuck off you shit head. "ooo i'm so clever! i made my screen name after an imaginary point system that only down syndrome children care about!"

This.

It always confuses me when people get upset over arguing and debating on NS. Isn't that what a forum is for? sure the arguments get pretty retarded sometimes, but these forums would be way less entertaining if everybody always agreed.

I'd even go so far as to say replace 'NS' and 'Forum' with 'Life' and 'Discussion' and you've got a great statement on the world today.

wow, I kind of thought three people would read this and then it would die. Anyway, I guess what I was trying to say that I am all for "discussions", but it seems like 3 out of every 4 threads on "style" or "judging" is someone complaining that they judges suck or that they don't know how to score riders. Armchair quarterbacking is rampant is tons of other sports (e.g. my sister who critiques NFL players like she is a hall of famer...), it would be sick if NS was a little better. But, that is probably too high of a standard. C'est la vie eh?

Yea lets not talk about politics, sports, or anything we cannot directly change because it is futile. Sick, sounds like a super interesting forum to me.

I think you missed it, again. There is a distinct difference between a discussion and bland personal opinion without basis.

No I think I got it... Just because some people are bad at formulating coherent arguments doesn't mean you should make a post directed at everyone on NS saying that because you are not a judge, you shouldn't argue...

Next time say what I just quoted in your original post, because the way it is now it is just a very general message that is simply a personal opinion without basis.
