Dear Mr. Bishop - why do you dislike comp skiing?

Meh. This always has and always will be the case in mainstream comps. Deal with it.

I don't see any reason that should be the case other than a lack of willingness to do anything about it.

I'd just like to point out this is far from universally true. I've travelled round a bunch of comps this season and spoken to a lot of the 'athletes' over my travels. While there are guys who genuinely love to huck their meat and see what happens, by far the number one complaint I've heard is that you have to do certain tricks to win comps regardless of whether that's what you enjoy doing or not. I'm not going to name drop here because if guys want to come out and say this shit publicly, that is their prerogative, but that includes guys who are winning and are making a lot of money off doing said tricks.

It goes both ways for sure. There are athletes who may not be feeling it and don't want to huck themselves but in that same comp there will be some guys who are on it and just want to throw down. That is part of the excitement of comps. All the riders have similar tricks but it's a mental game too massively an I think it's interesting to see who can handle the pressure needed to win.

I do like the idea of changing slope courses up a bit. I have never really understood why it has to be rails then jumps. Mix it up a bit and give the riders somthing fun whic may help keep the motivation up amongst all the riders. Does not nee to be crazy like b&e (all though that is awesome) but just a few differnt features and maybe more line choices.

Quote from Fabian Bosch: "I dont like doing triples but they get you to the podium" Like what the fuck is he doing triples if he doesnt like them. Is he really that money-grubbing?

I don't like this attitude. Why is it a problem if he wants to aim for the win? Everyone In the world needs money to survive and for an athlete a win may pay travel expensives and other bills for a couple of months letting them concentrate on what they love most skiing. Being successfull should not be seen as selling out, what is wrong with wantin to win.

Nothing wrong with wanting to win. But I dont get why he does triples if he doesnt like them. You can travel without winning any gold medals, Like guys from TheBunch. they travel around skiing and having fun without doing any triples or winning any gold medals.

Most people don't like what they do for a job. Professional comp skiers are no different.

I wouldn't buy something from a company that makes race skis. Even if they sponsor your favorite skier, they are only here for your money.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of boots and bindings do you use then?

Open your eyes dude, everyone has bills to pay

If only there was a way to compare skiers where they weren't forced to only do double and triple corks to win. A format where the skiers set whatever tricks they thought were hard, not tricks other people thought were hard..... Hmmmm

But seriously though, when I talked to Walker in Whistler at WSSF I was blown away when it was all explained to me. You're absolutely right that the format you guys have is absolutely perfect to actually pit athletes against each other with no judging necessary.

I hadn't thought of it in that light before and its brilliant.
