Dear andreas, i believe you won x-games

dear jossi,

in my mind you won

-underscored at slopestyle

-attempted switch dub at superpipe

-flawless landings at big air

you are the man

andreas' late dub corks in big air were my favorite jumps of the games. and I think he did that right too.

But, sammy had the energy in his slope run that brought him over the top. and russ was slaying too. andreas got podium and that's sick. I'm actually pretty happy the way slope got judged. and schlopy did go bigger than anyone in big air, so, nothing wrong with that.

am I too positive? Oh, that's because I just got done sessioning a jump next to my house in the dark! and it's gonna dump for the next two days!!

1. i totaly agree! adreas is the sickest dude in slopestyle nowdays! and possibly big air too.

2. but did anyone else noticed that the anouncers called ambuhls sw dub 14 a sw dub 10? and the judges didnt even give him a 40 for it!!!! are the judges having sex while the are judging or do they have a herd with drunken monkeys judging the comp?

oh wait, it's that the judges are having sex with a herd of drunken monkeys while they judge the comp.

but that's gross.

Thanks you andreas for throwing the backy in big air...it made my x game...to many double cork 12s....gotta keep the classics

lol at the fact that a misty 540 takes the same skills as 450 on 630 off. I know numerous people at my home mountain who can misty 540 off rails but have never 450 on 630 off

Didnt andreas have a dub 10 with a fucking octo grab in prelims? he had a perfect run there too and came in 2nd or third. so techincal

An unnat hand drag 3 on the joy stick better than a lip 2? It was a fucking 360 and he put his hands out. Nothing against Sammy, his run was dope but I was amazed that was scored well at all. The difficulty isn't that close. Lip 2's are scary as shit because so much can go wrong with them, especially in a comp run. He could clip, or miss the rail completely. Sammy's 360 hand drag he can see the whole way around. Basically the only danger with that trick is somehow manging to run into the joystick, which is a much lower probability than eating shit hard on a lip 2.

also, having just rewatched his run, i notice that, in addition to all the other stompage, andreas' first rail wasn't 2 on, it was 1 on, sw 50-50 1 off, which is fucking rad, and also his sw 9 was more like sw late cork 9, which is fucking rad.

not sure what my point is, just thought i should highlight that andreas is fucking rad.

All you have to do is look at how many riders went lip 2 onto the down rail compared to how many hand dragged the joy stick. The answer is a lot more opted for the lip 2. Just this fact alone already decreases the score the judges will assign to the trick because it is considered a "stock" trick for many of the riders.
Using less commonly touched features with bigger wow factors (remember this is X games) with less "stock" tricks will score higher. While you may not agree, the riders are aware of this and they factor it into their runs accordingly.
And try doing a 360 and putting your hands out and see how well your hand drag turns out.

well said. its more about standing out than anything else. you could be technically or stylish as shit, but the fact is if 5 other competitors are doing the same thing, you score is naturally going to suffer. standing out is key

I didn't care for the fact that if you didn't throw two doublecorks you didn't really have a chance to podium no matter how big or stylish or technical you went. I don't have everyones runs memorized but what I love personally is a diverse set of tricks which Andreas def. had

andreas was the only one misty of the rainbow! and the only one doing switch right 10 and not an ugly no grab 630 of the canon, so that argument doesn't really count!

thx ced for ur post..totally my opinion!

As mentioned above, Andres didn't do a lip 2, he did a 180 to the box and then a 180 of, he said in a interview at norwegian tv that he choosed this trick because nobody else had done it.

In my eyes this is much more difficult than a handdrag.

The 180 on 180 was amazing, don't get me wrong. However, he did do a lip 2 on after, where you have the option of hitting the rail or the joy stick.
A 4 onto that rainbow is arguably more technical than going straight on flipping off. Not too say that both aren't very technical.
Also, the canon box is clearly an integral part of the judging criteria as I mentioned earlier. It was a miscalculation on Andreas' part to not hit it in my opinion.
Lastly, although Sammy's 6 off the canon was non grabbed, it was corked out, shiftied and poked, definitely not my definition of an "ugly" 6 off.

Basically I agree, I'm stoked that Sammy won because I like watching him ski in general, but I think Andreas' run was harder.Andreas' reaction to coming in third with a run that arguably could have placed first and definitely should have been second was admirable. As mentioned, he has the best attitude, its inspiring.
Judging is always going to be controversial. But there is no doubt that Andreas, Jossi, Elias and Henrik all got screwed in big air. Slope and pipe also had issues too. If I had been judging (and its lucky I'm not, that job would suck).

Pipe: (Honestly if I was judging I would have said Duncan, Simon, Kevin but given some realism)
Rolland
Simon
Torin
Slope:
Andreas
Sammy
Henrik
BIg Air:
Probably Jossi or Elias. Henrik/Andreas were sick too.
Fact is though that everyone is going to have a different opinion. Its too subjective to make everyone happy.

nahh what run sounds harder on the jumps

sw 9 mute

dub cork octo

right dub mute

or

right kang japan

sw dub rodeo high saftey (orginally the zudnik)

dub cork mute poked out

Sammy grabbed safety on the right kang if he grabbed it at all, and you're neglecting to mention andreas's GORGEOUS sw right 10 blunt (I bet wallisch was weeping), and the 9 was a sw dub...

Not quite sure what your point is here? I can't do any of these tricks but Andreas' sounds much harder.
sw right 10 blunt > left 630 off (not always but Andreas' was a beauty)
Sw9 mute < right dub kang Dub 10 Octo > sw dub rodeo 9 safety (grabbing octo in a double cork!?)right dub 12 > dub cork 10 poke
Andreas spun all 4 ways, his unatural dub was both harder and smoother than Sammys, and he grabbed octo in a double flip which I've never seen before but its pretty ridiculous even if it has been done.

I don't mean this to come off as hate on Sammy, I'm love watching him ski, I just think Andreas got a bit screwed over. Not that he cares.

well my post is connected with the top one! no one is talking about penicil...so u wanna say andreas pencilled through the kickerline? then ur pretty ignorant!

Andreas is my hero. He has the best attitude out of any professional athlete ever imo. My mom knows nothing about skiing but when she watches the x games or dew tour the first and only thing she notices is how he always seems to be way happier and having way more fun than anyone else. It is good to see

rotations don't matter any more than the graphics on a ski. an on-axis spin or single cork with a dub japan or octo grab is more tech and difficult than a double cork 10 with a mute.

so the one with 2 cork3s and a cork 5 wins..i wish this would be like this..

i just added the roations cause i think a double cork 12 is harder than a 10!we're not talking about b-dogs run, i know it's crazy difficult...just compare sammy and andreas!

I donno I think his run was sick and that double octo imo is that sickest and hardest trick done in the whole slope.

BUT...

I think where he got 3rd was because he did not do a switch double. Let's face it that sw 9 isn't going to stand up against against a dub in a pro event like that, I myself can switch 9 mute and I know many others who can as well

And a handdrag 3 isn't a stock trick? Watch some videos from a few years ago, they aren't that difficult. Lip 2's have become a stock trick for pros years after handdrag 3's. The reason why many people opted for a lip 2 is because its harder than a handdrag 3. Sure, he's getting points cause hes the only one that did it and I think the only other rider to hit that feature was Henrik, but tapping a 'joystick' mid 360 isn't that bad. Lip 2's have a lot more risk, and if you fall off early you're docked points. Try them both yourself and tell me you didn't piss your pants trying the lip 2 onto a down rail.

i hate that it's during the weekend (i know, it sort of has to be/it makes sense) but just as always, i get all excited before hand then do shit all weekend, then realize at some point, shit i missed it all. some dude this saturday night was like yo dude you hear about torstein horgmo's triple cork???

exactly^

i always happen to be staying at my local hill, go out skiing come back at like 10 and figure out that i missed all of the skiing events perfectly

i did see snowboarding big air, which was pretty cool

wish i had caught that too.. i rewatched skiing big air and slope on xbox live epsn thing, but need to check out SB slope and big air

And you have to consider that he through down that run at 3:30 with the sun practically gone behind the mountain. The landings were dark as hell (thus why almost everyone fell on run 3). After the comp I got a great spot right up front at the awards podiums and I got to personally congratulate him on an awesome run. The guy looked like a 10 year old who landed his first 5 or something! He just said "Thanks man! I'm so pumped!".
I love riders that are pumped to be stoked, haha. Great guy and his run was sick.
