Dear andreas, i believe you won x-games

In my humble eyes you won x-games by a huge margin.

Unless it was said in the riders meeting that the cannon box would score way more then the jump right next to it there is no way that th bronze medal run wouldnt be the winning run in the event. ( thats an opinion...)

It seems to me that no matter how i look at it andreas run was better then any other. he had both ways spins and doubles stomped clean with better grabs. Thats why I think he won. Andreas had a better top 2 features then sammy without any hesitaiton (for me ) and then Sammy did spin a lot more on the rainbow. Then again a 450 on 630 off is something that dosent take more skills then a misty 540 off the same rail. In facts, both of these tricks at this level of skiing are pretty standard. If you can spin straight onto a rail, you can spin a lot out of the rail by tucking in and a misty flip out is kinda regular for the best of them.

Anyway it 's just ridiculus where competitive slopsestyle is now and I wonder if there is anyway to be able to judge which run is better then another.

The technicality of all these tricks is known by only a few riders ( most of them are competing in the event) and there is no way to know the difficulty of doing one or the other in a particular course.

I believe competitive skiing arrived to a level where I dont think it can be judged and I'm happy about it. All the top dogs are skiing at a crazy level and they will push it even further in the years to come. the only things that saddens me is that the judging is getting obsolete because there are too many things to take under concideration in a slopestyle or pipe comp.

O yea, to make sure I end this thread on a positive vibe, I'm uber stoked for sammy because he totally deserve the recognition for all he did with his skiing. He's mad skilled and I think that was his best slopestyle run ever. I just think andreas'S was a tad better.

all i'm gonna say is andreas has a hell of a good attitude to get shafted so much and still (apparently) not give two fucks. not that he did badly at all anyway, but he also go shafted at big air, he was nailing rightside dub 10 and it looked perfect..

Yeah! Andreas was the only skier who spun in 4 different directions and took 4 different grabs in his run. Maaaad respect!

I definitely agree. Though Sammy's run was still amazing, and deserves all the credit, Andreas' run totally on par with Sammy's. I do think he had a better rail section, but I think the determining factor for the judges was that Sammy did 3 doubles, and Andreas did 2. I think that Andreas certainly could have been scored though.

i agree that he got shafted in big air. his right dub 10 got like a 30. I actually think the judges overlooked the fact that he was going unnatural.

His slope run was sick and i think sammy rightfully took the win. I would put Andreas run over russ' though(not taking anything away from his insane run), but i think the podium was pretty well judged for slope other than that

i agree. andreas has been the most technical skier in the game for years, thats no secret. but its impossible to not be stoked for sammy, so im not angry andreas took bronze.

lets not start with this, there's a bunch of reasons other people could have won, but these are the results deal with it.

It in no way was a fuck you to the judges. It was a McConkey flip in celebration of Shane McConkey.

I don't think andreas cared always smiling having a good time. Like instead of trying to get into big air just a big ol backflip to please the crowd.

That is a skier I like to see who is just cruising and having a good time.

Great thread. If you have your own full terrain park in your backyard, maybe the judges expect you to throw quad corks on everything. I think everyone in this community knows how filthy he is and how tech. Props to all the guys who competed. The whole thing was mind blowing.

no that was for McConkey

Henrik's repeated bio 10 blunts (and 14) were a fuck you to the judges, and were also fucking sick at the same time

Andreas himself was stoked about placing third. Mike Douglas quoted Andreas as saying he "couldn't believe it", in reference to placing that highly.

That pretty much voids this thread if you ask me.

i was gonna make a thread on this. i really think he must have been proving a point because we all know henriks got some of the sickest dub corks ever but he didnt even throw them.

Ced I love you, but I think that Sammy's run was better. I don't agree with judging skiing in the first place, yet if I had to break it down Sammy had the unnat hand drag 3 on the joy stick (which trumps andreas' lip 2 in imo) then 4 onto the rainbow (nobody was spinning onto it, andreas went straight on) then although I don't know whether it was discussed, hitting the canon box (which is basically the hallmark of x games slopestyle) seems like a pretty mandatory component of a winning score. Hatveit should have known that imo. Sammy flipped both ways and stomped it all. His run as whole was just better than andreas'. Although andreas' dub with the octo was insane.

Hatveit's run was clean and exactly what I expected from him. But I think therein lies the problem. Unless he is doing something that has never been done before or something completely nuts the judges score against him. He is prob my favorite park skier to watch.

That being said Sammy deserved 1st and I was glad to see him finally win a gold. Kids been grinding for years.

i think sammys run was better , id score more points to a cannon hit then to go on the side , and i think the misty off thing is overated while we can say 4in blind6 is just hucking but its still hard than what evrybody was doing on that feature . and is unnat kang was more original than all de unnat dub12 people were doing . + MORE STYLE THAN ANYBODY

I can totally agree with what you said. Now a days, it's hard for people to see the more complex tricks being thrown down that are cleaner, compared to the bigger thrown (ballsy? possibly) tricks that aren't as clean or good looking (refer to the hot topic of discussion from a few nights ago about the mute grab situation when combined with dubs).

It's also unfair how in someones eyes, someone should deserve gold while in someone elses they weakly place at third.

The controversy will always be there, no matter who the judges or skiers are. Progression takes juding to a whole nother level as new tricks are invented yearly to the point that no one can keep up with all the change.

What I'm trying to say is, people are always going to get shafted in one way or another, shit sucks.

Yes! Even though I think all the top 3 were far to close to differentiate, I'm still leaning towards Sammy for the gold. But am I the only one that thinks he also got robbed of big air? I mean a perfect right dub 12!? Are you kidding me? No one else even spun Unatty. And I've been waiting since I first saw Jacob double cork back in the day for one with an octo. Props to Scholpy though, for throwing a 16 that could easily have been an 1800. But at the end of the day, its X-games, and it should probably be expected.

i don't think that the big air judges realized he was doing an unnatural dub. he got straight shafted.

although it might beworth soemtihing in slope, unnatural tricks dont get scored higher in big air comps, just like charles gagnier was doing switch unnatural 10s in big air comps a few years ago, did not get scored higher becasue of it

he really didn't throw that many. but my point is if you watch refresh then watch his big air runs you can see that he didn't throw his hardest imo.

i agree. judging these comps is just so damn difficult. i think if they had more judges it could possibly work. 3 style judges, and 3 technicality judges or something. maybe i don't know enough about judging but it seems like each judge has too much on their plate and if they could focus more one one or two specific features, or aspects, or some specific part of the run it might work a little better but that's just a thought

Who else say Andreas grinning cheek to cheek MID DUB 10. Thats a positive attitude if ive ever seen one. Not to mention that floaty backflip when he realized the judges all had minor mental retardations and wouldnt score his PERFECT rightside dub 10 any higher than a 38 or whatever he got.

what about Andreas' late corks? I've never even considered those possible, let alone seen anyone attempt or do them.

I was waiting for a dub 12 sausage or dub rodeo 10, but he was definitely pissed after seeing his bio 10 blunt get scored so low. I've never seen someone throw that before, and it was technically hard and stylish. Pretty much the entire big air comp was terrible judged. Jossi threw one of the only sw dub 14s of the nite and got like a 34.

Personally I thought Sammy's deserved the win, he hit the cannon box and the hand drag 3 was so dope to have in a slope run.

I like unnaty kangaroo flips more than unnaty dub corks, I don't know which is harder, but I know what I like to watch.

Lets not forget Jossi! the judges (and announcers) thought his switch double 14 was a switch double 10. He didn't deserve to win, it just struck me as ridiculous that they didn't even recognize what he did. Props go to Schlopy though, I'm glad he won. its good to see such a general stoke and surprise in a gold medalist!
