Dead > phish

maybe not so different because my dad when playing a phish cd said "i feel like i'm at a grateful dead concert"
 
Sorry, they are gonna be compared, deal with it. They attract a similar audience. And their musical tendencies are a lot alike. I thnk the dead are far surperior.
 
dead > phish but dead = gone and phish = more recent... similar but different, hard to compare but easy to compare... i duno, id say phish has better jams but id definitely said dead over phish.. not to mention jerry knew what was up on a guitar, too.
 
well...thats kinda the point. I dont think anyone in here was comparing their studio work; when talking about these bands I think its assumed you talk about the live shit

Grateful Dead>Phish

I've seen both live though (Minus Jerry, yet it was still awesome).
 
Both very good jam bands, but probably not worthy of the hype. They were good, but weren't fantastic in my opinion. I live in VT, and have seen quite a few Phish shows. They put on a good show, and I had a great time at each one, but I wouldn't have paid a lot of money to see the show.
 
How can you say that the dead isn't "worth the hype"? That so called word "jamband" that you use wouldn't exist without Jerry and co.
 
Jerry Garcia died on my birthday. Just thought I would throw that out there for you. Nagasaki also got the Atomic Bomb dropped on it on my birthday. What a great birthday I have!
 
Im going with Dead over Phish

But when i think of these 2 bands, i think

i love the grateful dead... ive never eally been able to get into phish.. i mean i love phish but i just havent had the same connection with the music if u kno waht i mean
 
Where in VT you from? I'm from VT too, and I've seen a couple shows. First show was when I was 10, haha. I prefer Phish to Grateful Dead, simply because I've seen Phish and I never had the opportunity to see The Dead.
 
Right now, Phish > Grateful Dead. Prediction in 2 months? Grateful Dead > Phish. I change a lot. Whoever said it was right when they said, "They attract a similar audience but play different music." You can't compare their music, only their genre. I guess. I don't know.
 
that is such a sweet picture, G. dead is way better then phish, i was just having a conversation with my dad about that, he thinks that if Jerry Garcia never died then Phish never would never have been popular, that they were just filling in a void for all the deadheads. I disagree though but still dead is way better
 
ya man i know what u mean...The Dead's lyrics were poetic and meaningful, and phish sings stuff like "the tires are the things on your car that make contact with the road".
