DCR-VX2100 vs. DVX100b

I have narrowed down my choices to these two 3 chip cameras, the panasonic and the sony. they seem almost identical in many ways. ie. low light performance. Price is sort of an issue, which makes me lean towards the sony, but im left without some of the freedom of settings that come with the panasonic.

help.

dvx100b without a question, i was down to those 2 same cameras and i had to get the VX21 because i didn't have 750 extra bucks but i def woulda got the dvx

do you like the 2100 though? any downfalls? i sorta don't have that 750 either, but i can squeeze it.

if you film skating get the vx, its really good for skating

but if you can dish out the dough for a dvx go for it

i like both pretty equally, ive seen some amazing vx footage, the problem is that most people who own one dont know shit about how to set it up. ive seen great footage out of both, they both have their own style i guess.

not to be an ass but disregard that comment the skating one.                                  Here's the thing, the two cameras are abseloutely nothin alike. The vx 2100 has MUCH BETTER low ligh capability 1 lux compared to the DVXs 3 lux.... that's pretty much the only area where the vx beats the dvx. the thing that is so sick about the DVX is there are so many manual settings, that and variable frame rates, and the cinema like gamma, if youre really into immitating the film look the DVX is your camera..... the vx2100 is a really good camera too sometimes underestimated but it's the best prosumer camera in low light its mind blowing. Anoher thing to consider how much you know about filming, if you're new to it I'd reccomend the vx since the DVX has so many more manual setting so it may be more difficult to get a good shot for someone inexperienced. Basically if you can afford it and know what you're doing I'd go for the DVX no question.

OK NEVERMIND now he says go with a CANON XL2. its a little more expensive, but its astetically pleasing and not small and shitty and you can handle it well. he's used all 3 and apparently its the clear choice

no he's wrong, for skiing the XL2 is going to be a pain, it's huge and the only thing it offers that the DVX does is interchangeable lenses, not to mention the most recent DVX is newer

The new 100B is amazing. Save the extra money and get the DVX, don't be dumb like me and not save the extra money.

Who cares about the settings to, you will learn. Just read up on them and you will be fine.

well he doesnt ski. and he said it was huge. see the post.

size of the CCD on the XL2 is alot larger and the colors will be more vibrant, thanks to canons L-series lenses

yeah im really interested to see what an xl2 would look like for skiing, i would think it would be better than both the dvx and vx easy. the only thing is the size, but people film with 16mm setups and stuff thats alot bigger, personally i wouldnt sacrafice the quality of the footage just to have an easier to use camera, unless the camera was so hard to use it made the footage bad.

i thought he was using like a pd170, but then again i don't know for sure just a hunch either way just watching high five its impressive getting that qualiy out of a SD prosumer camera

I just watched the High Five teaser, and it was definitly filmed with some sort or vx or pd camera.

I have owned both cameras and would pick the dvx over the 21k any day. I really did miss the low light of the 21k though. If you're gonna go with a dvx get the A or original. You'll save alot of money.

Berman used a pd150 which is the same as the vx2000 except it has pro mic inputs and can take DVCAM tapes which are a better quality than minidv. The pd170 and the vx2100 are the same way.

oh yeah the manual controls is probably the biggest advantage the dvx has over the 2100, i wish the vx had more, it would make it so much better

Nobody makes better consumer digital video cameras than Panasonic.

VX if you want to film loose, skater type vids.

If you're into cinematic style and planned squences and such, the DVX kills it.

DVX stands for Deluxe VX

how does thr 100a stack up to the 100b?

and also i wanna ask about these stores on ebay. they sell a shitload of 100b's in kits with like, 2 lenses 2 tripods and shit, for less than the camera itself on other sites.-  theres a whole load of them if you search "dvx100b" on ebay. some of the pics have a green background and the others have a white one. it seems sorta sketch.

"The 100b has timecode sync features which allow you to syncronize your timecode between several cameras. The camera was purchased less than 8 months ago or so. As for low light, the 100b and the 100a both open up to 1.6 and have the same gain capabilities meaning that low light performance is identical. I've used the 100b many times and was definatly not convinced that it was worth the extra money."

from the thread i made to sell the dvx

Beware of the "deals" on ebay, they lure you in with a crazy cheap price and then try to sell you way-overpriced cheap ass accessories. However, if you look hard enough, and are a good negotiator and don't budge on their shitty offers, you can score a DVX for cheap. 2 years ago I bought a refurbished DVX for 2450 USD. I didn't mind the short warranty as I was moving from a VX2K that i had sold for almost the same price. The guy was trying to sell me a tripod, an extended warranty, and all other sorts of BS. I told him I only needed the camera and basic accessories it came with and got it. Use your judgement, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
