I personally think its a joke, my school made us listen to some cop in 5th grade. At the time it convinced me that drugs were bad and then i hit puberty and i said fuck that bullshit. In 5th grade i even did a speech about how DARE was great and my dad was a DARE Officer, things have changed i guess. Some users in my school like to wear DARE shirts as a joke and we have a DARE club and half the kids in it got kicked out because they got caught a party drinking. Whats your opinion on DARE, does it work or not because to me its a joke

we had something like that, it was just called something different. one day after the program i went home and wrote in huge letters all over my journal "I'll never ever ever do drugs... always remind me NEVER!!" but yeah that mentatlity lasted until i started high school

He was a cop, but he found out that he would get extra money for being a DARE officer. My dad is a moron anyways, im lucky he hasnt caught me yet or i would be screwed.

hahhha. Yeah when i was arrested for shoplifintg, he went to take my mugshot, and i made this really gay face like smiling and shit. He yelled at me, and told me my parents would be called soon. & hours later, they came. I asked when he called, and they said like 30 min before they showed up. what a bitch. I don't know why i thought of that. me and 2 buddies were there. good times....

we did a whole damn unit on this shit in my health class. it was funny because they showed us two videos and one said "a marijuana joint is 20 times as bad as a cigarette" and the other said it was 4 or 6 times so I asked the teacher about that and she just thought for a few seconds and told me she would get back to me. She didnt

yeah the elem schools in my district have them, i remember being in class n they had these bears n every1 wanted them so bad n u had to behave really good to get em, load of bullshit now that i look back on it

in DARE they make it look like its going to be some big scarry random guy that tries to force drugs on you and in reality its usually one of your friends..so it was pretty much WORTH less

That shit doesnt work...that and health class, they try to scare you but it doesnt work. I kept clean until junior year of high school, which is a long time, and then started drinking and now I'm like a raging alcoholic.

ya DARE is retarted we've had it at our schools all over and our town is like ranked in the top 20 or 10 or something for having the most drugs, its pretty funny

We were asked to sign a pledge in DARE that said we would stay drug and alcohol free. I refused to sign it because "I couldn't promise anything". All my middle school teachers hated me after that. But it's ok because our DARE officer got arrested for speed.

DARE actually causes more problems than it solves. by telling kids that ALL drugs are evil and will ruin your life it sets kids up that try pot and realize that it won't ruin their lives that their should be no differance to moving on to harder drugs and such becasue they were taight its all the same. it also give kids more to think about and they get more curious about drugs and wind up trying them. And also from personal expereience I know at least one kid that used the DARE skits about peer pressure as training for how to get kids to buy frugs from him a few years later. I'm very much against DARE and think it should be abolished completly and replaced by straight talk with real answers

Yeah I agree. I would say that about half of the kids that went through DARE at my school ended up doing drugs. Most everyone drank in high school also. Maybe someday people will realize that the problems are the same from generation to generation, and then real changes might start to happen.

DARE just teaches little bitches how to get high, what to do and use and what will happen, which takes out the experimental part and fear of what will happen

me and my friends all had to take dare in 8th grade for getting caught smoking. we erased the letters on our shirts that said DARE to resist drugs and violence to DARE dare IS drugs and violence for our dare graduation. good times...

 
Yeah one of the DARE police people in another class in 5th grade got arrested for beating his wife and then going on a high speed chase, he was so drunk. He worked at the same station as my dad apparently a bunch of officers knew he was an alcoholic but they never said anything. Im going to wear my DARE t-shirt to school tommorow, i only have 3 days left and its open campus so i might show up stoned, i still havent made up my mind

Back in 5th grade I made a speach in front of the hole school about how we r the next generation and drugs are bad and i will never do them. That lasted all but 3 years. Its a total joke. They never tell u how fun weed is or how horney drunk girls are.

I guess it's a good idea in theory, but the problem is they have to make up a huge crock of shitty lies to make drinking and smoking pot sound so bad. Then when kids find out that smoking pot doesn't actually make you kill your parents then they lose complete respect for the system and rebel. I think if they were actually honest about the risks of doing drugs it might be more effective. Or it might not, but personally I prefer knowledge over being lied to.

I know enough people (myself included i guess) that have had various degrees of drug problems so I'm not saying they are good. Still, weed is pretty much harmless. Shrooms aren't much worse. Even acid isn't that dangerous. But when people find this out but don't know the facts about other drugs they fuck themselves up. Ecstasy and cocaine aren't tought in DARE to be any riskier than acid, but I'd consider them to be infinitely harder. I know too many people that started doing E but they treated it like pot and fucked themselves up. So yeah thats what I think about drugs.

my school used to do that program to the 6th grade kids but they stopped because it made the kids to curious about drugs. Pretty unsuccesful if you ask me.

my DARE officer got in trouble for harassment to a teacher or something.. hitting on a teacher that he worked in the class with... and then he got arrested a few years later for meth. sounds like a good teacher to me... dont DO drugs, make them.
