Dane's one of the best skiers on the planet. I hope he recovers. Good to know it was just a dislocation.
I shattered my femur in a head-on car accident, and I lost nearly half my blood. Add in the fact that a piece of bone marrow then floated into my lungs, I was in critical condition. My femur didn't heal on its on because it was broken so badly. The docs had to go in a year later and add a synthetic compound to the fracture site to get it to heal. I spent three years in physical therapy and still couldn't run or ski afterward.

wrong. it is considered a life threatening injury because of the artery that runs parallel to the femur. if the femur breaks there are risks of slicing the artery and bleeding out. Also, the femur is the strongest bone in your body and makes a noise as loud and similar sounding to a gunshot.
