and succeded, today at smuggs me and 3 friends jumped the lift at a spot that is literally 3 feet high to get the best run i have ever had in my life. but next run we get to the top and see a fucking sea of red jackets, like seriously they had 15 patrollers stop us, and one guy got right in my face and asked if i jumped the lift like he was trying to scare me and i was like "uhhhhhhh maybe" and handed him my pass. then they made us ride the lift DOWN, (sooo humiliating, but kinda funny) some guy went "FUCKIN MORONS" as he smoked his cigarette as he went by, what a faggot...oh well at least i wont get cancer and he will. so we get there and talk to them and apparently we lost our passes for the season and we get arrested if we go on the property again.

not complaining or anything, cause about half the patrollers were real cool about it, they were trying to say we didnt shred it hard enough but they were clearly jealous we got to hit it and they didnt yet, and it was the only avalanche ive ever seen in the east so its all shit now.

we shouldnt have jumped the lift but all in all it was the best run ive ever had so i dont regret it.

and if anyone has experience with something like this....is there a way to fight it that we will for sure get our passes back? like a loophole or something in the rules maybe....im gonna look and see.

we were marked though, we still would have got caught. but yeah...the epicness of that run just took ahold of us and we wanted to do more, we were planning on cutting a different trail until we got up.

and its quite a thing riding down, really really cold, and it looks super steep. people stare at you the whole time you go by, its weird.

why would you EVER, EVER, EVER give your pass to a patroller just cuz he asked for it? tell him to go fuck himself and ski away! wtf!!!

yeah man but i cant do much about it except appologiza and try to get it back. no regrets though, that run was amazing.

because they'll catch you anyway next time you get on the lift? sounds like it was a sick run, but i don't think there's much of a chance of challenging it. it's roped off for your safety so that you won't sue if you get hurt in there, and you went in there, so they're just trying to protect themselves from a lawsuit. you're probably not the kind to pull a lawsuit like that but they're just being careful, there's a lot of people who would.

it was small, probably about 75 yards of a liftline trail that came down. and people were saying we side slipped it cause it was so scraped off, it wasnt...it all came down just from us all straighting it.

I jump of a chair lift from the parking lot to the hill. Its like 8-10 ft into soft powder. The run back down the chair is heaven with trees and then the guy with yellow teeth always tries to cut your pass.. So I only go on the days when he's not there because other lifties are intereted in the run, not cutting the pass.

yeah, i totally understand why some runs are closed off, and why you shouldn't go there. But its like, if I were in his situation I would've said I didn't buy a ticket and they didn't check it onthe ride up or something. or just ran to my car and left. either way you're not losing your season pass... that is super lame.

Thats why I hide my pass and say I don't have one.. and if they start to question I say either I hiked or I had a ticket but it ripped off. Its worked numerous times.. and damned if they're going to search me. Fuck em.

yeah well obviously you can't get right back on the lift! if ski patrol wants your ticket its time to switch mountains or change clothes! i would never surrender my pass because they fuckin rope of some dope shit. POACH IT

probably my friend chris^

and yeah i coulda ran but there were so many, and if i said i didnt have a pass it would have been worse....they told us they could arrest us for jumping the lift and i was like wow ok these guys arent fucking around.

ya i was one of the other kids

all you kids who are saying that you didnt have a pass. if we said that then we would get theft of services because we were on the lift and jumped. I wish we had some sick as pictures of it or maybe helmetcam footage

At my hill there is a run that used to be open but too many gapers hit the lift poles so they closed it down. I hit it one night on a full moon and it was pretty awesome because it has the steepest pitch of the whole mountain. Afterwards me and the kids I was with headed towards the lodge and chilled for about an hour. We get back to the lift, get on our chair and before our skis got off the snow it stopped. The lifty got on his radio and said something. We get to the top and there are about 8 or 10 patrollers standing up there. I still don't know if they were there for me or not but I hauled ass out of there and went back to my condo. I was scared shitless though when I saw all those red jackets.

yes. it was sick.

and corybailey, what would you have done? fought all 10 of the patrollers, skiid down, then ran uphill half of a mountain to the top lot where we were parked? we had no option, one of us tried to get away but he got caught too cause someone (skibumofvt) pointed him out in the crowd.

i would've just left and hung super low for a while. i mean. if i got kicked off my mountain what the hell would i do when i'm not at work.

but yeah that sucks your car was parked up the mountain. everything is downhill for me.

i'm just saying that i would've put up at LEAST a chase scene with those guys. i mean they were going to take your pass anyway. i would've wanted to see how good of skiers they were. i just think you guys could've lost them for sure.

yeah man if we had seen them down hill or something for sure but literally as soon as we got off they grabbed me and got right in my face. we could have gone to the lodge and hung low with our gear off and been fine if that was possible but it wasnt once we got on the lift (dumb move)

and yeah chris, whatever you are still a SNITCH! haha just kiddin.

i just told my dad what happened and he that it was so funny. he said walsh has something in his ass hole, he sounded so proud

Wowza, your hill sounds pretty anal.

I'm an instructor and jump off the chairs all the time...It's just what we do.

a number maybe but they have our pictures and names addresses tele numbers and the head patroller knows all our dads and shit but hes a giant douche bag

yeah not so smart getting back on the same lift. you shoulda tried to run though, like seriously i doubt they would catch you just unstrap and fucking book it up the hill where i highly doubt they will catch you.

my buddy got his passed clipped cause he sprayed a snow sign with snow while trying to slow down. i didn't see it cause i was in front of him, but he didn't even say anything. then this guy (who i have had trouble with before) starts talking to our whole crew and telling us how stupid we are. then he asks why i don't have poles i say i was hikin the park before the tow started up. he then says, i should cut your pass for skiing without poles, it is not safe. i said listen here "big al" i would ski better than you without poles switch down this mountain. i did nothing wrong so don't even try to start this stuff with me. i can get my dad involved again if you'd like. (long story he almost got him fired before for doing this kind of shit). dude is such a fucking dick head.

haha balls i went ona trip there in grade 8 me and 17 frinds all jumped off the lift right infront of the lifty box it was a huge drop to nipple deep powder best skiing of my life

so im gonna send this letter to the person i can contest the punishment with, what do you guys think?

Hi, my name is Nick Riani. I am 17 years old and have been skiing at smuggs for the last 10 years I have lived in Jericho. During my ten years i have had absolutely no issues whatsoever with ski patrol or any mountain employees, but recently on February 16 a poor decision was made on the part of me and three fellow skiers and riders to jump the lift at a very low spot on madonna one to ride down the m1 headwall. We know we deserve to have some sort of punishment for this, but at the time we did not realize that it was such a danger to others to jump off. We thought jumping off of the lift could hurt only ourselves, we were completely unaware that it could cause the lift to derail or buck dangerously. When our passes were taken we were told that they would be suspended for the remainder of the season. Although we realize now that what we did was unsafe and warrented punishment, I think it is slightly unreasonable that our passes be removed for the remainder of the season. None of the members of the group have ever had previous warnings or issues, so I think it would be fair to give us at least a slightly less harsh punishment so we can continue to use the passes we had all paid for. We have all put a lot of money into this mountain over the last decade and we hope that our first issue with breaking of rules can be treated as such. If nothing can be done to change the punishment then I would like to appologize for our actions and say that, hopefully, i will be able to purchase a pass next year and continue to enjoy the mountain that i have ridden at since i was learning to ski.

Thanks,

Nick.

anything i should add or remove?

maybe you could add something about how it will never happen again. also, maybe something about how you would be willing to perform community service for the mountain or something...?

That should be ok, just copy/paste into word and fix the spelling mistakes to make it more professional. And make sure you are emailing it somewhere were it will actually be read.

i was told my pass could get cut cause i skied under a rope that they were taking down at the same time. I had waited at the top as they fiidled with it- they were walking across the slope with a rope in their hand rolling it up - said i was a rope cutter

i personally would go for more of a kissing ass/begging for your pass back rather than saying how the punishment was wrong. blame yourself not them.

thats just me though.

at my hill we tell em they dont have the authority and they dont know what tehre talking about...tell them its only the 1st time or something or just ride down and if your hill has condos rip it into there and walk around there for a while

capt'n al can sukafatdik. my goal everyday on the hill is to make at least one remark on his dumbass patroller god complex.

bummer man. i almost got caught on a closed trail a few weeks ago. me and this other kid ducked a rope and i think we were on shuttle and then went into the hersheys extention and as we were about to go out onto the trail there were fucking 15 ski patrols trying to look all important at the bottom of the trail. tthey saw us but couldn't do anything. we waited for likr 20 minutes and then they left. kind of sketch but it turned out alright.

good luck with getting you pass back though

Yeah you deffinetly coulda been like:

"Ya I have a day pass right here......"

then go down to a zipper or place you would put it and be like

"Shit it must have fallen off, it was right here"

If they ask for your name, mame it up. Then say you don't have you wallet, so no ID.

No pass loss

fuck that sucks. shit like that happened to me. we all decided to poke holes in the people on the bar ads in the no-no zone. when we got up there they clipped us.

yeah, dont tell them that you think the punishment was too severe. Say that you understand that taking your pass was completely reasonable and appologize . You used poor judgement and you have learned from your mistakes.
