Damn. Thought I had it figured out.

I'm 5'8" 140. I made another thread about getting new skis, and I thought I was certain on getting the Bibbys, but I have been intrigued by the Donner Partys. I used the searchbar, but didn't find too much. Just how versatile are the Donner Partys? Are they strictly for pow? My only other pair of skis are the Reno Rockers, for reference. Thanks.

They are not a versatile ski, pretty much pow only, but the most epic pow boards ever. Check out my thread on em for pics of rocker and all that good stuff.

Good pics. So is this pretty much going to be the general response? Will I be much better off just getting the Bibbys instead?

from what I know the donners won't be good for much besides pow...but they will be very good for pow! If you wanted bibbys to be able to have fun in the park with as well as hit pow then I'd say stick with the bibbys

well if hellbents are good for park then obviously the donners will be good too right??? jokes

thread creator: don't get a 186cm long ski. It's too long, even rockered.

maybe people don't enjoy skiing on skis that are way above their head and skiing is about having fun.

but it's true if you like to shred AK-style lines then a big ski like 186 would be good for you. but I'm guessing you don't do that a lot.

I'm not worried about size at all. I'm confident enough in my abilities to handle a 186. That's not what I'm asking. I just want to know if the Donner Party is going to be versatile enough to be a second ski to the Reno Rockers, and it's not looking like it from the responses.

I think you would be surprised at how versatile the Donor Party's will be. They are essentially re maid spats, And I know alot of people who used those as their everyday ski, it takes some getting used to but the shred. The Bibby's will be alittle better out side of soft snow, since the rocker is fairly small and they have a traditional side cut, but keep in mind they will still won't be perfect. I highly doubt you will have problems in soft sno on either.

dont worry about the size

im smaller, probablyy younger and have been riding bigger skis for the past 2 years

as for the skis the bibbys are more versatile but the donner parties im sure will be fine as long as you arent skiing groomers all day

I could care less about how they ski on the groomers. I'm just worried about trees, and crud, and variable snow when there isn't too much of the fresh stuff.

yeah as long as the snow is soft you should be fine

and moments are really light plus rocked/reversesidecut skis have less swing weight because of the skinnier tips so slarving, slashing, pivoting will be ridiculously easy

the bibbys will def be more versatile. i just got mine and they seem perfect. soft but not noodly. some sick rocker. fat without being absurd. i cant wait to ride em

i actually agree with "sir-i-change-my-name-every-month" for once

While I'm doubting teh fact that you can handle 186's, and I know rocker makes it ski shorter, regardless, there is still 186 cm's of ski under your feet. Keep that in mind for when you're planning on popping, and jibbing around.

Are you guys kidding me? 186 is not even close to being too much ski for him. If he asked me to recommend him a rockered pow ski I would say something in the 184-188 range. Rockered skis feel tiny when you have them on your feet, and something like the bibby's which are super light and are meant to be mounted somewhere near center will be perfect for someone his size.
