i dont know if anyone else has noticed this, but it seems that the methods of the leftists/activists/hippies/protest-folk are becoming more and more detatched from reality, and their target market.

i read adusters regularly, because i sell in in my store, and if you pay attention to this magazine and their fight against corpo-bullshit, it just seems so abstract. no-one outside of the lefist/ect. community will understand or be reached/converted by this information and pictures. the only people it affects are those who dont need to be convinced.

the gap between the thought process' of corpo-america and lefty/ect. america is so incresingly big, i wonder, are they still even trying? or are the writers of mags like adbusters just practicing their photoshop skills?

companies need to be convinced that money can still be made with sustainable practices. why does everyone think in the short-term?

its the longterm that should drive economy, and i know people will see this, but i am certain it will be far too late.

yeah the only people that i knwo that read adbusters or even know about it are already extreme leftists, so they arent really convincing many people but maybe they are, i dont know

It's pretty hard to convince people to give up there convenient way of life for change they can't see. As a society tv has ruined us, we're all about instant gratification and it would be better if we ran up and burned down the white house and lived properly but unfortunatly it would take time and people want to feel good about themselves (in a 10 minute time span).

What I'm saying is that capitalism is overwhelming and I really can't see a clear solution to our problems. Living by leftist principles is fucking hard man, just trying to stay true to myself and live where I do is really hard at times

Thats the problem with our current democratic party. Though in no way extreme, they are unable to clearly identify their goals and beliefs. Making them an intangible party. Thus the republicans gain momentum. Unless the democrats can clearly identify and pursue a set of morals then their party will continue to gently tear.

Yeah, i agree. Look at one of the democratic debates where the nine people, running to be the presidental candidate for 2004, all disagreed. If the democratic party is going to be strong and pose a real threat to the Republicans, they are going to need to unify themselves and not each try to push their own ideas. It just will not work.

im a sophmore in highschool and i could say that the hippies have changed me. About a year ago i was like whatever with the hippies and didnt really care. now ive become more intouch with them and i feel what they are saying. its not that the hippies are to extreme today (they haven't changed besides in number of people). its the fact that our economy and america has changed so greatly because of the government. IF WE WANTA BRING A CHANGE TO SOCIETY LIKE THE 60'S THEN WE NEED TO START LOOKING AT THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS FOR THE SUPPORT. teens are the few people left in this world that still have the potential to be open minded

i think so. It's about activism during the 60s to today and about benefit concerts and how music has been involved with politics. It is called stand and be counted. I bought the hardcover for sale at borders for 5 dollars.

i just think that the link the 'hippies' are missing is that if you want to change things you have to change them from the inside. you aren't going to get a bunch of people to listen to you by marching down one of the main streets in a city for some bullshit cause while people are ttrying to get home, which is the only effort i can honestly say i see being put it. no one cares, if you do that shit people just get pissed and are less likely to join in for the cause. it's ridiculous, instead of pulling bullshit like that maybe they should use their brains and think of a smart way to get people to pay attention to what thye're doing.

Fucking right. Right know we march to stop shit from happening. We live in a democracy, marching in the street is integral to show that the people do not support this shit

 
there isnt much more you can do that people will listen to. people try to get otehrs inby talking and it does work but protesting is a way to show a lot more people what we are about
