Dale isn't a "traitor to canada". He left because they weren't letting him do his business here. so what if he had connections to malware software, if he wasnt making money that way, someone else would be. he was friggin 13 and a millionaire. it's alot of our fault for pretty much saying fuck you to him
i get that he seems really pissed about it all, but he's never emotional on his podiums, he's very critical of himself, and he for sure thought he got ripped off last night a bit.

as for people saying guilbaut shouldnt be 6th, thats what happens when you don't do the types of tricks judges want to see, and miss your grabs. he and dale both were doing different tricks/tricks in a different style. Dale does his crosses more the old way, with a boot cross, instead of the new (stupid) ski cross.
people see moguls and a canadian finally winning and act like they know everything about the sport.
its awesome bilodeau won, but if you ask me, the biggest rip off was PA. he has the best turns of any skier ive ever seen, and should have at least podiumed. he had a perfect run, and bilodeau screwed up in turns like 3 times, with his hands and his knees breaking

all that being said, dale does take the canada hate pretty far sometimes. not giving us interviews can be taken in many ways though, of course we're all taking it to be so bad, but maybe he just doesnt want to talk to a nation that hates him before the olympics. i mean he was probably under a shitload of stress coming in, with it being in canada and him being a former canadian.

he's not a bad guy, and bilodeau isn't either. they're both good people, and to let everyone in on a little secret, if bilodeau hadnt won, he would have been just as upset and whiny as dale was. both have a reputation for being kind of pissy about losses actually.

there is absolutely no reason to hate on dale begg-smith. the only reason he decided to leave the canadian team is because they were a bunch of pricks who gave him the ultimatum between his extremely successful business and skiing, which last i checked is supposed to add joy to your life, not force you into unwanted decisions. he was only 16 when the canadian coaches confronted him with this, and if i was a nasty good 16 year old skier who was also making bank i think i would skip down under and ski for a more laid back team then drop my million dollar business. and the dude still has a gold and silver under his belt, i think hes proved hes an all around successful athlete. its got to be rough coming back to your home town to compete in the olympic games while asshole media reps and douche bag interviewers only want to focus on that aspect of his life, rather than all his well earned accomplishments. hes personally one of my favorite competitors so no hate.
 
Malware/spyware/spam IS a scam by definition, it is based on deceipt! Maybe you can't blame a guy when he's 15 for making bank that way, but his pissant attitude is what causes people to hate on him.
 
Oh so i suppose you congradulate the person who is profiting off plauging your computer (which you use to check NS) with spyware/ adware/ malware.
 
there was accusations of his business being associated with spyware and such, but no proof. his and his brothers business is based off of advertising things, like pop up ads. and if it wasnt him creating them, do you seriously think someone else wouldnt fill his place??
his business has little to nothing to do with his skiing anyways. he's not like some lofty rich guy who thinks he's above all of us.

his coaches and team managers didnt want him to talk to canadian media or any other media because they're worried about creating contraversy. he had a choice: stay in canada and don't ski moguls, or move to australia and follow his dream. he did, and now everyone hates him for doing so. think of how shitty it would be if every canadian media company just wants to stick a mic in your face and say "whyd you bail on us dale?"

He actually seems like a cool guy. He puts his goals and himself first, he's been a self made millionaire since he was a kid and he is the best at what he loves to do. Nothing but respect for him.

Well the main reason he didnt want to speak to the media is because all they do is end up asking him about his business when he is there to ski.

Just because he wants to keep emotion out of what he does so he can perform at his best no reason to hate. If you actually listen to what he did say he said he was happy with how he skied and thats all he can control.
 
i think he's the man... no ski sponsors... pays his own way to train and make his way to the top of the sport... it's hard to hate on a guy that's completely self-made...

i think that we can compare dale begg smith to the dumont, he seems like a guy that everyone loves to hate, i respect the man for following his own path and he skied a damn good run, that being said he was beaten by the better skier in my opinion. his coach filed a complaint saying that the judges favoured alexander and that dale should have won the comp. This is the only thing that bugs me, alex had a harder degree of difficulty on his jumps as well as a faster time. looking at this it makes sense that alex should have won. also it kinda bugs me that he showed no emotions on the podium but thats just my opinion.
 
haha you're an idiot. im not arguing about his business choices, which let me add have been extremely successful and allowed him to ski independently and by his own rules, but rather that he is a hands down amazing athlete who just doesnt give a shit what the media or public think of him. he seems pretty fucking down to earth to me, he doesnt make a big show when he wins and he takes his silver gracefully and without public complaint.
 
actually D-Bag Smith's coach did complain and said D-Bag should have won. They even just said that it happend on CTV..

if a coach really has a problem with how an athlete was scored, they

appeal to the judges, and it happens like right away, not usually 3

days after

it never happened, or else theyd be more definitive about it (the newscasters)

Dale Begg-Smith is legit just cause he told everyone to fuck off so that he could do his own thing and look what he's done. millionaire while still a teenager and a gold in the olympics when he was 21. Obviously he's doing something right.

 
I still respect Begg-Smith for the amazing skier and athlete that he is. We would not be comlaining if some non-canadian born athlete competed for us and did well, so its hypocritical to try and bash the guy for skiing for another country when his own coaches shunned him, for lack of a better word.

There is an appeal process but it has to happen straight away if they dont believe they were judged correctly.

Im a judge and i watched the event i personally thought DBS turns deserved more than what they got compared to Alex (I am aware DBS got 0.1 more just thought should of been bigger) but thats just me. To be clear though thats not me saying that Alex shouldn't of won, he had an amazing run.

Dale is maybe not the nicest guy on the media front in Canada but that is because of what Canada did to him. As for the business he started it when he was 13 and it is not malware and spy-ware it was an advertising clicking pop up business. I'm not just jumping on Dale's dick because he's Australian, I've met him and he's a decent guy, that is focused on his sport. The reason there is so much hate on Dale is partly because of his spin off in Canadian media, they portray him as a "traitor" and a criminal but in fact it was Canada that failed him, as a 16 year old they failed to offer support to him with his business and him setting up his future job. Dale was emotionless because that is his public persona and what ahs earned him the nickname the "iceman". He wasn't a bad sport but he wasn't a good sport but that is understandable he probably guessed the hate mail he would be getting from Canadians now one beat him. Him and Alex are friends and I'm sure he was stoked for him to win but was disappointed in himself. His coach is a great coach and I now for certain he did not protest to the judges, he may have stated his opinion on the judges to the media though. All the hate he is getting is completely unfounded and is a disappointment that people want to throw this shadow across a great athlete.
 
1st, it's moguls which is a regulated sport; why should anyone on here care.2nd, of all the people who should have won, the last American who went got ripped off the most.He did a back cork 10 to a back cork 7 and had a sick run and had one of the fastest times.
Lets be real moguls hasn't changed at all since Salt Lake or ever for that matter. It's still the same people doing the exact same trick and skiing really fast through moguls (which I can respect) but we really shouldn't be concerned with them. If anything we should realize some of the growing similarities between what some of us are doing and try to get away from that. It would only weaken what most of us are trying to do if Freeskiing became regulated, became an Olympic "sport" and alienate the people who want to do something different.
Freeskiing is hardly a sport and people should quit trying to defend it as one. When some of the best "athletes" can smoke and drink and party all the time, before and after comps. When people drop out of comps because they were too busy getting fucked up the night before, you don't really have a sport. How many people here do intensive dry-land months before skiing? not very many. How many of you go running and then stretch and then go ride every time you ski. Even fewer. Don't make what you're doing something it's not. Be proud of what it is, enjoy the lifestyle and have fun.

sounds like DBS has a bit of complicated history concerning Canada and how he makes his money. He can obviously ski, but I'm glad he didn't win the Olympics. Canada needed a win like this from someone proud to carry the maple leaf flag.
 
I guess I never saw the whole comp. Damn, wilson had an uber sick run. Definitly deserved the podium and he had a huge smile.

It used to be you werent allowed to go inverted in moguls...oh wait noone does backflips in competition, must still be disallowed...WRONG

And I don't know how many times it has to be said, but for those of you who are either too lazy to read or are uneducated degenerates, mogul skiing is NOT about the tricks! 25% of your score is under "air" in which you will be judged on hegiht, landing, DD and overall cleanliness of the trick (eg. laid out back vs. tucked knee back). Mogul skiing is mostly about the turns, so stop whining about the tricks, if you dont like it go watch slopestyle.

Oh, and I never saw anyone do a cork 10 to cork 7 in the comp, but maybe I missed it. either way a double twisitng back is harder than a cork 7

his turns were not worth 4.9's though, anyone can see this.

none of this will even matter in 2014 though. mikael kingsbury (my age, 18) was a forerunner for this olympics and foreran with a double full and a cork 10. he still has 4 years and his prime time of skiing and he's already throwing down world cup level runs.
