Dalbello vs. Fulltilt

I need your help guys. I want to buy my husband a new pair of boots for christamss but i don't know if I should go for dalbello or full tilts. Here's the story, a few years ago he was fitted for a pair of lange banshees which were great until the liners packed out a bit and the shells ended up being big (bad boot fitter). he then got on some 26.5 dalbello kryptons (also fitted) and meeh he liked them but never talked great things about them. i know he is super interested in upgrading to some il moros but he is also tempted by all the full tilt hype that's been going on lately. so basically my question is, if he fits in dalbellos will he fit in full tilts?? what FT size will be equal to a dalbello 306mm boot soul lenght if I decide to get him that?? How do you guys think these to boots compare?? I'd love for him to try them on before I buy them but that is not possible right now. Please help! + karma for helpful answers : )

I fit in 26.5 dalbellos also. When I tried on full tilt BB's the 27.5 had too much slop (310mm bsl). Now the 26.5 ft's fit tight but right, accept for the length in my small toe (301mm bsl). Would have to get it worked just a little bit. Now this is still not going to be totally accurate for him because I don't know what his current shell fit is like.

The only real way is to try them on I'm afraid. Now you say you can't do that, so at the VERY least you need to order them from a website like backcountry.com so he would be able to return them if they didn't fit correctly. Don't do it if there isn't a possibility of returning them.

yeah i'd be ordering them from backcountry, porters or untracked.. but you mean to say that FT's have a shorter bsl but fit the same in size?? or are they all in all smaller?? his kryptons fit snugg but the liners aren't that packed out (he wears a 9.5 street shoe)

Should have also added that I think the dalbello il moro is the safer route to go if you can't have him try them on. If he was fitted for kryptons than il moro's are almost sure to fit him. Now he might not have spoke highly of the ones he has, but the liner could make all the difference. The intuition liner in the Il moro is leaps and bounds better than the trufit that he has in his old ones. They are very nice boots.

Now what type of skiing does he do? How hard does he ski? Also how big are his calves? I have noticed that if you have really small calves the intuition liners leave a gap that would have to be dealt with (but that would take place in both the il moro or the ft's since they both have intuition wrap liners). Also my advice on the return policy still stands, even if you get the il moros.

the bsl of the full tilts is going to be shorter but the fit is the same. they use really short heel and toe lugs to help keep the weight down apparently. i like the full tilts a bit more than the kryptons, lighter, a true progressive foward flex, interchangeable tongues, just seems like a bitter package.

i totally agree with the website return policy tho, get them, have him try them on, if the shell fit is good, take them to a fitter and get them customized. you can stretch the hell out of the shell on the full tilts, but cant go real crazy grinding them, so just be carefule where u take them

They don't fit exactly to the same size. The smaller bsl (5mm difference) is what would make me have to get some toe area work done to the full tilts. But since I don't know the spacing on his shell fit that could be completely different for him. For me personally the last width between the dalbellos and the ft's wasn't really noticeable (but that's my foot).

There really is no way I or anyone else can really answer. Has he complained of any pinching or pain in his dalbellos, or any slop? Cause if not I'd say go with the il moro. Since he won't be trying them on in a shop, experimenting just doesn't seem like the right timing. The il moro is an awesome boot with great flex to it also, and I think he would be very happy with it if it fits his ski style. So what does he ski mostly?

the wrap liners from the il moros might make a difference but if it's just that than i'd just get him a pair of new liners. and as dave said, the full tilts seem like a better package but i just wouldn't want to order them and have to send them back because of the fit. thanks for the input guys!

anyone that has had experience with both please post!

It isn't just the liners that make the il moro different from the rampage or pro. The upper slap ratchet design makes it flex differently than the others with a regular buckle. It's a more fluid flex throughout.

What type of skiing does he do? How advanced is he? Because you are gonna wanna take that into consideration with either choice. Cause different models of full tilts have different tongues that make them different flexes. I don't know if he has the softer rampage or beefy pro model, so I don't know if he likes the park or if hes a hard charging sob. Because I wouldn't recommend the il moro if he was a hard charger. If he is mainly an all mtn/pow skier I would look at the full tilt konflicts or bumble bees more and try them out.

^ it'd be the konflicts the boot that most suites him (2 different flex tounges). he's a hard charger but also likes to hit the park now and then... a really well balanced allmt skier, won't do any crazy stuff though... i won't let him!! lol!!

thanks for all your posts + karma for sure. bump for more opinions!

I dunno about bsl or anything but i'll just say I just ordered the il moro's because they fit my foot great when i tried them on. the ft's felt strange, but maybe they just need to be molded. the dalbello's felt like a more solid boot that would hold up and stay nice for a while. the ft's looked/felt a little weak.

both claim to be bringing back the flexon 3 piece boot (fulltilts obviously more) so both are pretty comfy and innovative.

altough it would ruin the suprise of the Christmas present maybe you could be like get in the car and start driving and then pull into a shop and be like ok you can get any boot in here that's my present to you, that way would ensure good fit, maybe not, just something for you to think about

^ya ya like blindfold him and take him all the way inside to the boot rack and have a sign that says Merry Christmas, I Love You and put it up on the boot wall and then take the blindfold off. i'm sure the shop people wouldnt mind

Alright, here's my experience with the two, though short.

I tried on both Konflicts and a pair of Dalbello's. The Full Tilts were a better fit for me because they have less area around my foot, and over the top of it. The liner/boot seems to be a low-volume boot, for those of us with skinny ass feet.

But the best way to do it is really to have him in the shop, with a good bootfitter.

this is all really helpful, thanks guys. leaning towards getting him some il moros or just totally give him a rain check and have him try them on next year.

okay since there's no shops heres what you could do. print out pictures of a bunch of diff. kind of boots, including the main ones you were thinking. try to print out at least like 12 pictures of different boots. tape them up on your wall in like a 4x3 style so it looks like a boot rack. then blindfold him and take him to the car. turn on car and like drive around the block then just go back to your/his/whosever house and lead him inside to infront of the wall. its like an actual boot rack but just with pictures haha

with untracked they have a policy where u can purchase two boots and then send back whichever one you dont want or switch them for a diff size. so that could be an option. they are a really sweet website i would definitely reccomend them i got my fulltilts from them and i fucking love them

I'm going to have to suggest getting them at a physical shop because either choice can be made 10x better by a bootfitters alterations to make it PERFECT for his foot.
