Dalbello Krypton 130 TI ID vs. Dalbello Krypton AX TI

Hi all, I need some help answering questions on these boots.

- First what does "TI", "ID", and "AX" stand for.

- I've been reading that the 130s come with two tongues, are these tongues different stiffness/flex? I assume the tongues are different flexes because they're listed under "B" and "C" below. If this is true, why would anyone get the 120s (unless you have a wider foot)?

- For the 130s, it states that the flex is 130, however, for the 120s, it says "R&D" flex, what does that mean?

Not sure if I should go with the 120s or 130s, I'm 6'3 195lbs and a pretty aggressive skier. I'm at 30.0 mondopoint and 100mm width. Will go to boot fitter but want some more knowledge before I go. Thanks.

B - STIFF FLEX: Lupo PRO HD, Krypton 130 ID, Il Moro

P - HARD FLEX: Lupo 130

C - MEDIUM FLEX: Lupo Factory (Carbon), Lupo AX 120, Lupo AX HD, Krypton 130 ID, Krypton 110 ID, Krypton AX 120 ID, Krypton AX 110, Chakra 105 ID

M - SOFT FLEX: Lupo AX 90, Lupo AX 105 W

D - SOFT FLEX: Chakra AX 90

Sounds like something a bootfitter could answer.

just playin, I have the AX, thing is a bucket, it fit nice for a little bit but the liner is packed out and really wish I got something narrower. I’m also your height and weight and the 120 flex is way too soft, my bootfitter even said dalbellos are softer in general say compared to a traditional 4 buckle.

try em both on in a shop, I’d say it’s worth it getting the 130 if it fits, narrower, and you get tech inserts.

also my AX has the B tongue, still not enough

"TI" stands for Titanal(?) Inserts. Basically those metal slots in the toe and heel lugs for use with touring bindings. These are however still very much a downhill alpine boot. They just added those inserts for folks who were ok with sacrificing a walk mode for the downhill performance.

"ID" refers to their wrap liners. I think it used to stand for "Intuition Dalbello" as some of their liners were made by Intuition in the past, but it seems like that partnership ended a while ago but they just retained the "ID" for their wrap liners without it meaning anything. FWIW, I've been riding Intuition liners for some time and I'm convinced the ID liners are still the same material.

"AX" just refers to their wider last boots.

At your height and weight, steer clear of the C tongues, even if they're referenced as a 120 flex (there are no industry standards/controls for these flex numbers, at best it's just an ambiguous reference to tell how a stiff/soft a boot is within a company's line up). I'm 5'11" 190 lbs and felt like I could go over the handle bars anytime I'd try to pressure the tips. B tongues are close to a "130" flex, but just not quite due to the nature of how 3 piece boots flex. 130 Kryptons come with clips you can insert inside the spine of the boot to stiffen it up even more, but I've never tried as the B tongue itself is perfect for me. It's just crazy how much softer the C tongues are.

Thanks for all the help. I fit well into a pair of 29.5 full tilt boots. I keep reading that you should size down for Dalbellos, any takes on this? My foot is 100mm wide (narrow for my length) and between 29.5cm-30cm mondopoint long. I'm thinking of getting a 28.5 for the krypton 130s then getting any areas punched/heat molding for a more precise fit. Any advice? (I don't live near a boot fitter which is why I ask).

I'd go 28.5, but tbh these are two different boots at the end of the day and you should really try them on with a boot fitter. A lot goes in to a boot's fit other than length and width.
