Both Are about the same size and i can get both for the same prize. I plan on carrying very few things.... does anyone have these packs and if so what do you think?

i have the bandit and the heli pack, an avid backcountry skier.
the bandit is slightly uncomfortable, less features and a shit ton less room. it is lighter and much more compact, it is what i use for skiing. i can barely fit a shovel, probe and lunch in it.
Bandit also has a avalung which is a plus if your a pussy like myself.
Helipro is a better fitting pack and is better quality in my opinion. even though it doesnt have an avalung and beckons for you to attach shovel etc to the outside which is problematic in my experience. thats what id go for
Spark notes; heli-pro is better and ALOT bigger

I have a Heli Pack and a Helipro and the both are really nice packs for backcountry. I Like my Heli Pack better just beacuse I personally like the fit of it and the way I can carry everything I need in it. I also just like the quality of Dakine's gear.

That has got to be the stupidest fucking thing, I have ever heard.

So you rely on your avalung as a source of safety in an avalanche?

Also, keep in mind Dakine has a lifetime warranty on their bags.

explain why an avalung wouldn't be a plus please

i actually want to know, in the market for backpacks too

It should never ever be used for reassurance in the bc, which is what the first post i quoted was implying by the sounds of it. Which is why I said he was fucking stupid.

It definitely is a plus, but shouldn't be used as a life line, and should only be used when it may help save your life (avy), but to be used in a sticky situation (of which one shouldn't be in anyways). Having the avalung should not impair your judgement on a line you think may slide. If you think it is unsafe, don't ski it. If I were to buy a bag with an extra bc safety tool, I'd buy an ABS bag and an avalung.

Really though, are you going to drop into every line with the avalung already in your mouth?
