Daily Throwdown 14/15

accidentally learned switch 3s today.

Also just a note, never come to coffee mill to shred park, ever. The park is soo bad it's unbelievable

Hot dog/burrito/chill pill at hyland is super fun. Got a couple of saucy tricks. Saw a few kids get wrecked on the side hit. Also saw a little kid go sw2 pretz 4 and I contemplated quitting skiing.

I drove by Coffee for the first time. Looks like decent Vertical for MN lol. The road around the back that goes up to the golf course is sick.

Yeah, it's a nice ski hill, it's just that the park sucks lol

Sent a huge cork 7 off the big line at spirit on my third run yesterday. The light was super flat and I couldn't spot the landing so I ended up on an edge then on my shoulder. Luckily no injuries, just wish they would paint the landings a little.

nah, far as a bail on a cork 7 goes it was super mild, didnt even end up with a bruise. Just always kinda unnerving when youre bringin it around and all of a sudden youre like "where the fuck is the landing?"

Must be a terrible feeling, can't say I've had it. Perks of being a 95% rails skier. Flatlight days are reserved for rails by most skiers, props for throwing down in flatlight without paint, that's hardcore.

Haha it was even sillier considering it was like 2nd or 3rd run and I decided to do it while I was coming into the jump

I usually hit all of the complicated/big features the first few times down, because otherwise I'll get into a groove of not hitting anything big all day

While we are talking about big features, I disastered the mongo (flat-up-flat) at hyland for the first time tonight and took it to switch. It is terrifying, especially on one hit when I felt my front edge sticking, but still fun. Very proud of it though because last year I was terrified of anything over a 1.5ft gap to a rail.

we have a rail like that at coffee mill this year and today is the first time I've seen a skier hit it. The lip is so much lower that you have to disaster it though

The food court elbow is up at Hyland! Last night they put it in and let people try it without a lip, that was enjoyably exhausting. Today I hit super for the first time in 3 years. That turned the heads of my friends who have never seen me hit a jump. Also disastered 10 degree at hyland, should've gotten a speeding ticket.

What's the setup at Tyrol like? Heading up to UW Madison tomorrow for a college visit and was wondering if I should bring my skis to ski a little on the way back to Iowa

stoked to have two new tricks that I've been wanting forever come to me despite bitter cold and rock hard snow:

sw tails 2 pretz 2 and front 6

Went to Mt. la crosse yesterday. I hit the big jump, learned japans, did some 3s , and hit some new rails. I have a small snapchat vid of the big jump, I'll try to post it

I've done better 3s but hey. 1st jump is the big one and the 2nd one is the 2nd biggest one

Hell yeah! Floating spins on big jumps is pretty fun, especially the first time. Stale 180 is a personal favorite. Yesterday, I built myself a jump to try flips on without dying, took 3 tries to land a flat 3, then I lapped it trying different grabs with the flatty. Eventually got Japan on lock, kind of a tweaked safety, indy, and dub Japan. I want to try it with a truckdriver.

Where'd you build the jump? How big was it?

I built it at my cabin (lake vermillion in northern MN), I had to pull a bungee myself at the top of a hill to get the speed for it (which is a huge pain in the ass). The jump isn't big by any means but had just enough hang time to get the flat 3 around with a grab. Just waiting for some softer snow to lay it down on a park jump.

That's crazy how you can do that on such a small jump

It's crazy what you can do when you set your mind to something and pop. I can't emphasize the second part enough, POP.

boi we grind in that valley and we make it work boi

hugo it's aight, most the features are shit but the big yoomps are dece and there are some fun rails. one side of the park was basically closed because the rope was too thin or something so hopefully that's all good now

Went to coffee mill yesterday and I was trying to do a 7. First attempt I got it around to 5 but then my ski fell off and the second attempt was a blur. Apparently I was down for a while (according to my friends) but I don't really remember that. So I have a concussion now, I think I should be clear to go to afton on thursday though

Went to the doctor to see if I'd be clear for Thursday and he said it's gonna take about 2 weeks...fuck. He also said to stay away from electronics so I guess I'm losing already lol

Damn son, that sucks. Vibes

Take it easy man, concussions are not something you want to mess with in the early stages. Just plan an afton trip for after you recover. It will be much more fun late in the season or on their closing weekend.

Giants Ridge's park was closed for a USASA slopestyle comp put on by G-Team. All I have to say is that USASA sucks and G-Team sucks. 97% of the kids didn't grab their spins or even slide a rail the whole way through. Big ups to them for ruining my day, there wasn't any notice about it ahead of time either.

In other words, if you ever want some easy comp wins just do USASA comps

I guess if you're a skier, but organized comps are ridiculously expensive. I'm not paying hundreds of dollars to get a ranking that means nothing. USASA rewards stupid stuff and encourages kids to toss big tricks without getting the fundamentals down first. I saw a 1260 on a board go down on a 15-20ft jump that had a really flat lip. The kid got a concussion next run.

That's a ridiculous degree of rotation. they do that big of spins and still dont do grabs?

I was talking about the average competitors. They would do nothing more than a 5 and rarely grab. The boarder who did a 12 grabbed Indy on everything. I'd like to forget about this though because it really ticked me off. Let's switch the topic- some insanity will probably be going down in the spring slush, let's hear about it!

Spirits park is prime for spring conditions.

Hyland slush was damn fun today. Wish they'd just keep it simple and let it go like that more often

RIGHT ON. the jumps are horrible right now though. were you the older guy rockin the flannel and a casaul cap sliding left foot forward naturally? (I say older because anyone over 17 is considered old at hyland.)

I hit the yellow shotgun as you were fixing the lip to it I think... I was just messing around imitating different styles and suddenly i found myself doing like a beef curtain (snowboard grab) where i grab the rail with both hands between my legs while sliding it. it was really weird and awkward.

Lol... I landed my dream rail trick, been thinking about it and attempting it randomly here and there the last few seasons. 2 on, back swap, back 2... like a dub pretz

Yeah that was me, gotta flatten those aerials lips onto those rails :)

god they were brutal haha, at least they helped my confidence with lip on to higher rails. sometimes I forget to bring the tails up high enough.... not fun.
