Daily Throwdown 13/14

Giants Ridge's opened up their big park this week! 30' down bar, gap on 10' down bar, 30' down tube, 20ft down flat, 25ft dub kink, a 20ft elbow rail (30º kink), small wall ride, stairset with a handrail, and it has such a fun jump line the jumps are shaped really nicely. Go slow into the first one, I pulled a Dumont overshoot first time. Second jump has a steep lip with a steep landing (good for all you flippers out there). Third jump is a super nice, floaty, and smooth 35' booter. I really suck at jumps, so my throwdown was a shifty 3 on the 35' jump.

Making this post to let all of you know that Giants has a dope park this year and it isn't completely finished yet, they're adding a big quarter pipe and a few more rails. Only downside is $49 for a day ticket, poor lighting for night skiing, and the 3 minute chairlift ride is a drag.

Daily throwdown: Side by side backflips on each of Afton's 3 jumps in a row in their park with my brother. NYE resolution, more backflips.

Since I don't know where else to put this... anybody else going to be at Welch on Saturday the 8th? I am going with my school and I won't have any other skiers to shred with. Hopefully their park isn't flat as shit this year

No, sorry, and good luck dude. You are a warrior. Welch is worse than anything you can possibly imagine. Not only is the park flat, the rails are extremely sticky and rusty, you have to hit a rail at like 50mph to grease it. Hopefully you can find some creative side hits on the runs, there aren't any jumps. There's a big side hit on the right side of the run Chicken. To hear more about how horrible welch is, go back to 2nd or 3rd page of this thread, I go off.

Fuck me, and with the looks of it it's going to snow that day. Hopefully there's at least a little speed so I can hit the rails. And fuck I'll look for some side hits, with no jumps this is looking to be a boring ass trip. I remember when they used to have huge jumps, like 4 years ago! I was just starting to ski then and never hit them but now those we be fun

Maybe they just looked huge because you were first starting... But idk because I've never been to welch and don't really ever want to go to welch.

I was close to making a trip by myself to Granite Peak instead, but all of my friends just started skiing and they're going on the trip to Welch because we get really cheap tickets. i probably should've just went to Granite. Oh well, I'll let you guys know how it is and try to find some fun areas

Used to be my local hill, skied there once this year... Worst skiing to date. It's still skiing (fun) but jesus god. How cheap are your tickets? Aren't reg tickets like $50?

How in the???? well i guess you're jesus, that's a great deal. anyways, that side hit on chicken, it's super sketchy but you can send it huge, and it's a super steep landing if you send it there. you'll get ridiculous air if you drop from high enough. just know that if you fall, you'll be sliding for awhile.

Welch was actually pretty fun. They had a tiny jump up lol it was too small to do anything bigger than a 3. Also they had a dragon box which was cool and a nice long flat rail that was the only rail that was not sticky as fuck. And that side hit is huge! I swear it sent me all the way down the drop haha

Great to hear lick! Anyways, I broke my binding on wednesday, took it in for new bindings (I've has the same ones for 3 years). Ski shop says they've never seen the brake come off and rip part of the binding off with it... So I'm skiing at hyland today, 2nd day on the new bindings. Land switch really heavy and a little frontseat (not even that badly), double eject because I forgot to crank up the dins that were at 7 and the bindings break in the exact same way they did on wednesday. Long story short: I'm pissed. Anyways, I brought them back in and the ski shop is going to contact marker about their shitty bindings, hopefully I can get back out soon...

My fault for buying horrible bindings, hopefully I can get a refund and buy some decent ones. If not, well, I could be royally fucked.

did someone say binding troubles? that shit has plagued me all season.

So at first I had marker griffs, and after a couple hard falls (ski to rail) my brake broke. two hits later, my whole heelpiece broke.

Then I bought rossi axials, thinking "damn these will be phresh a'f"... boy, was I wrong. Within the first week of having them, both brakes broke off, beyond repair. the little pad is gone too, so my foot shakes the in the binding and it doesn't stay in well on switch landings.

long story short, fuck bindings

To bot you guys havin binding issues - go out and buy a quality 14 DIN binding like STH/FFG 14, or an FKS. Griffons are okay for little babby tricks but I noticed that they just weren't releasing consistently enough for me this year on the bigger hits. I've been riding STH 14's and they feel so much more secure, especially since you can actually adjust the toe wing width and height for a really secure boot fit.

Agreed. I had griffons, axials, marker 10.0s, rossi freeskis, and none of them help up. Hell, i broke the first three all in one season. Then I got a sick deal (last years thalls and fks 14s for $300) from somebody on here and it was worth it just for the bindings. I treat those things like shit and they don't even flinch

I've had mine since not last season but the season before. I had to put them on my old skis because my shitty marker 100$ bindings shattered after landing out of a rail. So i guess i'm pretty lucky.

At my campus there's a construction crew building a new road, and they happened to abandon their construction for the moment due to all the snow. They left behind 2 20', 12" diameter PVC pipes, 10+ 20' long 12" diameter corrugated pipes, and one huge (maybe 3 feet in diameter) by 10' corrogated pipe. The best part about it is that it's right next to a mellow hill, so my buddy and I are going to build a slopestyle course.

Shiiiiiit where is this? Maybe we could all make a Midwest Daily Throwdown Thread meetup appearance

I'd be so down to shred with you guys but I doubt any of you are close to Terre Haute, Indiana. I suppose this isn't really the thread to post it in but I still consider myself a Minnesota rider since I come back on breaks to shred Afton and Hylands.

Took a trip up to spirit this weekend (in heaven for 2 days and the crowds were really low). Anyways, I've never thrown anything off axis on a park jump, i was carving 3s on the first jump in the big line and noticed they felt weird. I had a friend take a video to see what was going. This weird feeling 3 was a 45º off axis baby cork 3! Hoping to drop the shoulder a little more when i get a good jump again. Stoked!

tried hucking a 9 off of the mini park jump at spirit last run today when i was going to my car.

Did not work. not one bit.

Came back from school this weekend so I finally got back to afton tonight. The right side rope wasn't running and the jumps were pure ice. Carved for a three off the big one and completely slipped out, might have broken my ribs again.... Still haven't been to afton with a good park yet this year

Great day today, got 180 on's on boxes, and almost had a 270, hit my first down poop rail and got an awesome shot grinding the top coping of a wallride that my buddy is gunna put in his next edit! So stoked!

Just posting to make an announcement about winter storm "Seneca" coming in, checked the winter weather warning for arrowhead region of Minnesota 9-13 inches, Duluth 5-8 inches, Twin cities looking at 3-5 inches, UP has 12-18 inches incoming. Also, it's going to get really cold again after the storm so this stuff is not going away soon.

My friend and I built this today right outside my dorm. Moving the pipe from the construction site to the spot was awful - the pipe probably weighs 300lbs and is ~18" in diameter and 25 or 30 feet long. Setup was a ton of fun though. I landed my first lip 270 and back surface swap on it, super stoked. We also set it up without the little pipe, as well as with the pipe vertical so we could tap it and then slide the big pipe.

Storm update, Minneapolis is in for anywhere between 7-11 inches, Duluth and iron range in for 13-18 inches, north shore and UP in for 17-22 inches. Can't wait to huck Minnesota cliffs and practice my tomahawking.

I think they only did it though because duluth was already off of school and they decided to just take a "break"

I'm hoping for no school tomorrow because all of my friends are down in madison or out of town this whole week.

On the other hand i forgot to say i did the switch. It was pretty intense.

Im heading to minnesota tomorrow for the weekend, i can't do any jumps because of injuries so whats the best place for low fun jib able rails right now?
